JVC HAR-X700 and 900. Two of the best dynamics? Am I nuts?

Intriguing, but at that price they're starting to get out of the budget realm which makes the RX models attractive options.

But who knows?

I'm new to audio and these forums. But I had purchased the HARX 900 and I was wondering if the Cmoy with an OP A2227 chip will do alright for powering the headphones while running through the DAC of my Behringer MS40.

Buy.com is out of the 700, and since I'm going to listen to mostly rock on them the 900 probably isn't the best headphone for me.

Does anyone know of a legit US-shipping site that has them in stock? Or how long Buy.com usually takes to restock things?

Also, on an un-modded, un-amped portable CD player, how do the 700's sound?

Wow! Really? Please elaborate. I was planning on ordering the D1001 for my wife for christmas, but then I saw this thread and got curious.

What music did you audition the two with? The wife listens mainly to Depeche Mode, Muse, Mew, Disturbed, etc.

Muse is rock, OP said the 900 wasn't great for rock compared to the 700. This is getting confusing. I'm excited by this thread.

So, will I feel like I'm missing something if I get the 700 for *mostly* rock? Or is it really that much better than the 900 for that kind of music?

Yes, I know. A lot of people will argue the HD 650 is not suited for rock either, but I really liked listening to rock on those cans, so I'm curious in what regards the 900 trumps the D1001's.

the rx900 sounds very expanded & deep with very good separation between the instruments with alot of air.
the music seems as if it sounds live in a big room, the instruments sound as if they were around me.
I personally would not use it for rock.
