Are these headphones comfortable for people with larger than average ears? I don't like pleather either as it makes my ears sweat but if they are really good then I may buy a pair anyway.

Which is better for rock, the 700 or the 900? They both sound like they're absolutely spectacular, and they're both cheap enough that I might be able to afford them in a few short months. Also, whichever you say is better, could someone A/B that headphone with the Grado SR225 for me? I'm wondering if these (900 or 700, whichever is better for rock) are anywhere near as good as those $200 Grado cans. I'm very, very interested in these. Give a good A/B, and you might have made one noob Head-Fi'er VERY happy.

Grado fans will like the 700s better for most all rock. So far, the 700 has more detail and front stage presentation. Interesting to note that the 700 is not sealed though. The 900 seems to breath a lot more than the 700 and has a much more spacious presentation.

And how does the the 700 compare to the SR225 (anyone that's heard both can answer this question)?

Also, I wouldn't necessarily call myself a "Grado fan" since I've only heard my friend's SR80's. I just want the headphone that will sound best for rock music of all sorts (including the ridiculously distorted stuff like Dinosaur Jr.).

Oh really? I'm very excited to hear this. I purchased the 700's as a large, closed headphone for gaming, I recently had a change of heart and quit gaming. Even so, I kept the order, as the price tag is too low to refuse. I had no idea how amazing they are with music and especially rock. Last week, I gained a lot of interest in the Grado SR-60's and 80's. I wanted some low end Grado's to have a taste of the sound. I've been holding off as I'm trying to be as gentle on my wallet as possible. From the way you describe the 700's, it looks like I won't be needing the Grado's. Does the JVC blow away the low end Grado's? How does the JVC sound signature compare to it though? I want bright and agressive as I've been listening to a lot of rock lately.

And on a side note- I see you have the JVC FX 66's. After having two pairs of 33's break on me, I bought Sennheiser CX300's for portables. I found them to be pretty muddy :/ I'm not looking investing too much in portables, but how are the 66's? I just want a cheap, durable pair of iem's to use.

Edit- Just thought of a couple more questions, going to write them before I forget. So the 900's are completely different? Like having both the 700's and 900's would be fine? Oh, and do the 700's also need 2 days to burn in?

I think the 900s will scale much better with an amp, they are also 64 ohms while the 700s are 32 ohms so it may seem that the details are more upfront, but maybe the 900s just need more juice, and with a proper amp may come over the top of the 700s. Of course I could be completely wrong, anyways would you say the 900s are better for acoustic, jazz, and hip hop then the 700s?

Both the 700 and 900 need burn in. The 900s seem to need more time. The 700s are certainly better to me than the grado 60 or 80.

The 900s are more laid back than the 700s so yes they probably do better for airy music. Jazz would be really nice. I need to listen to some female vocals still but yeah. Instrumentals sound really decent.

The jvc fx 66 are pretty good. nothing special but not bad sound wise and really comfortable and not microphonic so they are good for exercise too.

My questions:

How well do each of these isolate, that is, keeps the outside world from being heard? Please rate on a 1 - 10 scale.

And, how good are each of these at not leaking sound? Please rate on a 1 - 10 scale.

And, how well do each of these scale with amping? Please rate on a scale of 1 - 10. They already do well without amping, so how much do each of them improve with amping?

The model numbers are slightly different. Also, the HP-RX700 has the same color as the HP-RX900, which isn't the case with the HA-RX700 and HA-RX900.

Curse you head-fi! I'm just recovering from ~$100 in clothes and a cologne purchase and you guys make me make yet ANOTHER impulse buy. I picked up some X700s at Buy.com for $40 shipped... now I just have to hope you guys aren't pulling my leg on this one

Can anyone tell me how the HA-RX700 compares to the Audio-Technica ATH-A900? I'm really interested in that since they are both closed headphones with large drivers.

Also, since the HA-RX900 are semi-open headphones, do they sound more like open headphones or closed ones? How would you compare them to the Audio-Technica ATH-AD900 or AKG K 701?
