JVC HAR-X700 and 900. Two of the best dynamics? Am I nuts?

I haven't really seen anyone say anything too negative about the headphones.

Huhh... well guess that's one way to look at it....

Too bad: you probably would have liked them. I'm enjoying my new 900s very much as they're breaking in.

Got the 700's. Nice cans for the price. I need to break them in and then write up a proper review. As they are sort of closed cans, I'll compare then to my Beyerdynamic DT 770's (250 ohm model) and my AKG 271s's. I think that for the price, the 700's are a steal. All they need is a pair of velour pads (the pleather is miserable stuff).

Cheers!

The 900s have a bigger driver too. Sound is larger overall.

The driver are the same size according to the specs

Hmmm. Who told me that they were bigger?

So the only difference is the size of the housing and some of the material. Really different sounding but I guess Darths sound way different than stock 770s for similar reasons.

Not bigger, but different. The buy.com Website shows that the drivers in the x900 are 64 ohm while the x700's are 48 ohm.

I noticed the impedance difference. One thing,I didn't expect the 900's to sound as bad out of the box as they do. I will give it some burn-in time, give them a listen. In 48hours I'll take them apart and report back.

Just ordered the HAR-X700. Been looking for a quality closed headphone for less than $50. I do not like my K81DJ (only closed headphone I own), and what I have read about both the HD201 and HD202 doesn't sound that great. Hoping for a fun listen!

edit: and I will be sure to give them time to burn in.

50mm for both the 700 and 900. The 300 and 500 use smaller drivers

The ha-rx700s are not completely closed but will reduce some of the outside sounds

If they are the same drivers then what makes them sound different?

Same size but different drivers. There are differences in the housing also.

How much burn-in time is needed? 24hour burn-in still sounds congested, highs sounds like they're coming from the back of the cup (muffled).
