The sz can handle what idsd can throw at it but doesn't need it. I'm just wondering if it's your eq settings are the problem.

Nexus 6 and Custom PC build with ASUS SupremeFX 3 sound chip. I used equalizer APO and tried most of the settings on this thread. It would always lead to good bass but nothing that rattled my head like crazy. i didn't find a huge difference with the Cayin C5 compared to the FiiO E18, this is with high gain and bass boost switched on, both amps always led to clipping for me.

I'm suspecting something is off in your chain for both setups. No way should the c5 not be able to out drive the e18.

Do you have neutron for your nexus? Its a good player and has one of the best eq that i've tried. I've haven't used APO in years so I can't help with that.

Checkout HBB's youtube channel, he has done videos showing amps from the e18 to the idsd driving his sz2k. Maybe you can do some paper test and use the videos for comparison.

I already have checked out his channel. There is a difference between the E18 and C5 it just wasn't huge, they both clipped at 7 and 4 respectively on both units. I did use Viper4Android on my phone with no huge difference from Equalizer APO.

^^^ @chillaxing is spot on about Neutron. Best mobile player hands down. Up to a 30 band parametric EQ with pre-amp control.

Also, when we were talking about the C5, you never said you were getting clipping. You do need to look through your current chain and your EQ before getting another amp. While my Nobsound tube amp doesn't give me all the thump I want with the JVC, it's 1300mW into 32ohm, 300mW less than the C5 and it's not clipping when I run my SZ2k with it.

I'll set up my tube amp with the SZ2k's tomorrow and apply your EQ settings, see what happens. See if I hear any clipping.

Nope, they didn't. They didn't hit as hard as they do with the iDSD, but they hit well enough with clarity. So, then I tried my E17k and I did get some clipping, but that amp is only like 200mW @ 32ohm.

Side note: Was one of your EQ settings based off of the EQ settings I posted here a while back? Because one is super close to one of my favorites for the SZ2k.

Some of them were, I wonder why mine clips early. I'm starting to think it's my SZ1K but I'm not quite convinced. I can't really try any new methods now that the Cayin C5 was refunded, The E18 has just about 300-400mW @32ohms.

Bought a set of SZ2K's. I will finally have the brothers and will do some testing, might purchase a Magni 2 Uber as well.

Just got my SZ2K's today, they don't have any issues with running these settings compared to my SZ1K. Not much clipping if at all with the E18, slams harder and seems to have a slightly wider soundstage at least to my ears. Very happy compared to the SZ1K. The quality is great with the gold accents.

Hmm, maybe you did get a bum pair of the 1K's. Glad the 2K's are working though.
