Just got my m50s. Is something wrong with them?

I swapped out the 6Dj8 tubes in my amp and put in Sovtek 6922 and guess what the CSP2 is driving both the M50 and  D7000 with no clipping. it could be 6Dj8 do not like my low impedance cans.. LOL I will do some listening with the M50 which sound very nice with the tube amp so we shall see when they burn in.

My impression of the M50 are mostly positive. They for 106.00 buck are worth the money. I found the transparency was well below the Shure 840. The 840 are much better IMO. More balance and neutral slightly more upfront with the mids less bass but good and defined. Also both as studio monitors I found much less comfortable than my D7000 and not as portable as the D1001 for me. So the M50 goes back and I wait for thew Denon 1100 to see if they are better than the 1001. The M50 for me was uncomfortable and with the D7000 would not get any head time so I decided best to pass on them. But for people looking for an inexpensive can that sound good and is less than the 840 it is not a bad option. I do believe Shure set a new benchmark for monitors in the 150.00 and less category.

Frank.
Nice writeup and comparisons.
I agree with you completely about the 840 having much better (more neutral) sound. I really wish I could have kept them.

Yes, I'll be curious to see what you think of the D1100's.

Keep us posted.

Thank you shane and I am looking forward to the 1100. IMO both the 840 and M50 are too big for portable ipod use. The 1001 is much smaller and lighter for my portable use.

I don't wear my M50 ourside the house... just all around it.

I wear my IEM's while working out or mobile. Over or on-the-ear doesn't work for me when moving about the outside world.
