You really can't if the lettering is worn off. FWIR the drivers in the HP1 and HP2 were more closely matched than the HP3. The HP3 also seems to be less desirable than the other two and I've read some reports of people removing the lettering of the HP3s and passing them off as HP2s to get a higher price. Of course I have no first hand experience except at a meet with some HP1s so I could be off.
HP1 have the polarity swithes; HP2 have not. HP3 are the same as HP2 with less precise drivers matching. The following will tell you about that and more.
