I read an experiment once, cant remember the source anymore. Using IEMs while jogging produced a higher heartbeat rate as opposed to not using IEMs at all.

If you are worried about your arm catching on the cable and breaking it. I would recommend some IEM's with removable cables like the UM3x RC, Westone 4R, PFE232. Those are expensive for "working out" earphones though. But after all it is head fi......

I do agree with one of the posts above. I myself cannot listen to music and work out at the same time. It feels odd and I am not alerted about whats going on. It's like walking with earphones in a ravine or path, do people realize how easy it is to get jumped or robbed, for women even worse. It's the fact of not being alerted.

Anyways that's just my opinion and mind set.

Those is some expensive workout workout gear ;)  I do want to note that the 4Rs are advertised as water resistant.  IDK about the UM3x though.  All the IEMs in the UM series have removable cable.  Also, V-Moda Faders actually have a detachable cable.  Might be an idea as they are very cheap... Like 20 dollars cheap: http://v-moda.com/faders-vip/  I haven't tried them myself though, so I can't comment.  I may though :)

While the possibility of getting them yanked out of your ears is lower, wouldnt sweat come into contact with the junction between the IEM and cable? That sounds like corrosion to me, and corrosion is not something I want in a 500+ dollar piece.

The Awareness! App can fix that... The awareness thing, that is.

Hope it helps, Jim

just use cheap iems, no risk of ruining your prized gear.
plus, i hardly pay much attention to what i hear when i work out.

Same here. As long as it's loud enough to keep the ambient noise away and keeps me motivated I'm not concentrating on how well it sounds. Like someone else said just expect to replace often. Rinse and repeat.

Nope. I don't believe in that stuff.... Say your crossing a street I doubt that app could aler you of a car coming at that very instant.

DOUBT, It can be a Problem...

I have the App, and know that it works.

Perhaps you should try it, before you comment on its effectiveness.

It feeds the microphone feedback direct to your ears.  I've used the app.  It's instant.  It'll be able to alert you of a train or car for sure, but may not pick up softer sounds as well though.

You would think that but I have never had a problem with JH5. Perhaps the "corrosion" actually seals the connection in some way.  I have NEVER disconnected my cable from the IEM's and never plan to.  I think it weakens the connection each time you do that and don't see why anyone would ever do that.  Having said that, your point above is precisely why I prefer fixed cables anyway.  With a 2-year warranty I am fine with the prospect of a cable going bad.

My Atrio M5 have held up great.  Been working out with them for years (paired with shure olive foam tips).  I have no worries about them breaking, and sweat has never been an issue.  The bass also adds that little extra something to the workout.

I use my TF10 customs to work out in.  I always put them in a dessicant jar after Im done working out.  I don't think I'd use my JH-16 to work out in it would make me too nervous.

The thing is though that sweat would get in between the contacts and probably produce an oxide (if not just salt) layer between the cable and the iem, which would cause some major signal degradation, much more than the diff. between a copper and silver cable.

A dessicant jar would take out the water, but corrosion starts instantly in contact with a corrosive.

Going skating with my JH5's sounds like a really sweet idea, save for my fears of corrosion.  Can anyone corroborate/discount these concerns?
