iPhone 7 Will Revolutionize Portable Audio for the First Time in a Decade

I will be replacing my broken 6+ in November (when I'm up for an upgrade). How are the Samsungs, audio-wise? About the same quality as the iPhones? I'll either get one of those or a 6s.

depends on which version you get. The US samsungs all use Snapdragon chips and DACs which many here think are worse. The Equinox variants elsewhere seem to be better

So before I pull the trigger, I'll want to find out specifically which chip/DAC is in the model I'm interested in?

I can't complain about the audio of my 6. I HATE iTunes. But the sound quality through my DBA-02s is terrific.

Would I still be stuck with iTunes if I went Samsung? (Yes, I tried VOX, but found it had its own issues...what I really want is a circa 2003 version of iTunes, which was significantly simpler).

I'm sticking with my iPhone SE, which I think stands for "Sensible Edition".

1. Sensible size
2. Sensible audio output options

:-)

I think there is gonna be an audio chip on the dongle. We'll see.

On sidenote, i noticed that the Moto Z (with no 3.5mm) measured at gsmarena (via bundled dongle) better than any other Motorola did. Even if gsmarena methodology is flawed that fact caught my attention.

I am more and more happy about old jack retirement. I foresee lots of ergonomic choices for audiophiles. More than ever had and with ubquity to boot.

If the tonality it's not right, then nothing else really matters.

I had the Z and the reports were right, it sounded great and had tons of volume. Blew my S7 away. That said, I'm cautiously optimistic about the iPhone 7. I have a feeling Friday is going to be a frenzy of people giving their thoughts, to which I am greatly looking forward to. I think mine won't come until Tuesday because I was too cheap on the shipping.

Can't believe I scoffed at $12.99 to get it here before the weekend on an $850 phone lol

With Apple I notice when you pay less for shipping, the item still tends to come well ahead of estimated times. I used to order with expedited shipping and then the last 2 phones I ordered from ashipping and picked regular shipping they still arrived overnight practically.

Don't know about release day orders though. That may be different since they'll have a limited supply on a bunch of orders.

Re the "DOES LIGHTNING HAV ANALOG??" ongoing hysteria, it seems like apple would be well served for putting it there, even if for the exclusive use of its adapter. There's already a dac/amp for the speakers, after all...

From what I've been told and read it does route it through the dac and amp used for the speakers. I don't have any details how though. lol.

Well, if some can reterminate an earbud to lightning connector and see if there's music after pressing play.

where exactly have you read this? nobody has claimed this other than people who are A)blindly hopeful or B) know absolutely nothing about digital and analog interfaces

Have to agree that analog signals through lightning connector is dubious at best. I cannot see where the analog signals would go in the pinout out the lightning connector.

Should get the adapter for my current IP6+ tomorrow, and will post the differences on here :)

This is the kind of proof I expected from Rugby player and all we got was a bunch of chest thumping. I now concur, there is likely an DAC in the adapter.

How would volume work?

you mean all you got was relevant information when it comes to hardware design and why it isnt as simple as people were stating before? instead of a pin diagram that you can easially google? dear lord help yourselves for once. And fyi, that pinout itself doesnt eliminate the possibility because a pin is a pin and it only matters what is feeding it data be it analog or digital. pinouts for every single interface can be and have been used for multiple uses whether the standard or not by engineers everywhere.

What matters in this case, is the spec as it would have to an officially supported function of the lightning adapter for apple to sell devices with it, and it would have had to be designed into every single lightning device on the market, which it hasnt
