iPhone 7 Will Revolutionize Portable Audio for the First Time in a Decade

wireless headphone sales have globally overtaken that of wired

Maybe you should read the actual source before repeating this nonsense. Wireless headphones have reached 50% of REVENUE, not unit sales. The unit sales are at 17%, which is very far from "overtaking" anything. Well duh, wireless is expensive. This argument is like predicting we will all be driving Porsches in ten years, because Porsche makes the most money today.

Yup, looks as if a few outlets reported it wrongly, including the one I read.

I got given an iPhone 6 for work the other day. Compared to my own HTC10, it's like a kids toy. And now they have made the 7 even more childishly crap and will inevitably rake yet more cash off the gullible.

Nice work, bellends.

i like everything bout the iphone 7 but them removing the 3.5 mm, man this is a deal breaker, as I know how many times i loose or forget adapters

this leaves me with buying either the v20 which is great on specs but looks so dam ugly

or the note 7 which has everything except great audio

there is always a missing thing in a phone

Actually, if you get exynos note 7, audio is fine. Than you have htc 10. Check if note 7 uses new Qualcomm's discrete Aqstic DAC as htc 10 does. If V20 is so ugly for you.

The snapdragon Note 7 does indeed use the Aqstic DAC, any many reports it being better than the exynos version. Now it's just a matter of time before we can order some US Note 7's again, probably with a price cut and more of the 256gb micro SD promo :D

Just a notice to all EU iPhone 7 users and/or dongle guys:

I just notice that the reference number of the 3.5mm dongle is different in Europe and in the US:

European Union - MMX62ZM/A
U.S.                 - MMX62AM/A

It would be nasty that the dongle was capped in Europe so if anybody in Europe could compare as iP7 arrives if the max output of that dongle matches that of any iPad (EU iPads are not capped since they sell without bundled earphones) and report back it would help to assess the matter.

Hoping that the difference is just for stock purposes.

I'm pretty sure that Bombarde can still purchase CDs in 2016 if he wants to, and you can stick to your streaming services. Just like you can feel free to use wireless headphones and people who still want to deal with wires in 2016 (myself included) can feel free to still use wires. Just because you think that wires and CDs should be abandoned does not mean that everybody else should say "hey, I don't mind wires and CDs, but SparkOnShore says that those items are too outdated to be used in our modern times, so I guess I can't use them".

Of course you can! To each their own!! I am just explaining and trying to analyze Apple's decisions to move forward according to the majority's demands for the future of technology...

I ordered this case exclusive to Apple to pair with my recently ordered 7 Plus 256GB Jet Black:  http://www.apple.com/shop/product/HKHU2ZM/A/otterbox-statement-series-case-for-iphone-7-plus?fnode=99&fs=f%3Diphone7plus%26fh%3D458b%252B47e1

This particular case will allow you to see the finish of the IP7.

Yes but it's very thick and iPhone loses its thin and elegant form. I never liked thick cases. For me the thinner the better (0,3 mm), since also 6s and 7 are rather strongly built phones...

With the iPhone 7 around the corner. How likely are we to see companies, or any third party making cables for the various IEM's with removable cables and headphones with integrated DAC/AMP and Lightning connector in the other end? Or at least a cable with Lightning using the analogue passthrough that Lightning actually supports. Or perhaps someone else would innovate and provide a short "neck cable" with DAC/AMP and bluetooth connectivity to use with various IEM's and headphones that feature removable cables?

I've already tested using my Shure SE846 connected to Samsung's Level Link Bluetooth Adapter;
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Bluetooth-Adapter-Retail-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B00X7W89UG

And it works surprisingly well. But it feels really clunky to relay on a separate adapter, not to mention the fact that even the shortest cable from Shure feels long and clunky when you are using it wirelessly. It would be much more ideal to have a really short cable you could hide behind your neck, and not use something going all the way down into your pockets.

You know now that you mentioned it I have a creative e3 or whatever I might try it with the 7 when it comes.

You mean something like the cable and Bluetooth adaptor that Westone announced and demoed at CanJam last spring? It's a nice unit, but it still has all the attendant problems of Bluetooth... Although it does have twice the operating time of the AirPods, at least.

Your general statement is correct. "Sales" generally means dollars while "Shipped" generally means units as far as financial forecasting goes. You also said "globally" which has numbers closer to 30% of shipped where the US numbers are 17%. Regardless, the growth of both sales and shipped wireless headphones are growing multiples faster year to year versus wired so the trend clearly shows wireless overtaking wired in the next few years. While this is all speculative, I can't think of anything that is going to happen in the wired category that will be game changing to turn the tide back to wired over wireless. Just to be clear we are talking the world wide consumer base and not just the <1% that consider themselves audiophiles.

Wow, nice find on that. I sure hope you're right that they're not capping that silly little adapter. I read a few posts back that it's only 35mW? I'm in the US so it doesn't matter to me, but I feel the pain for my EU friends.

I'll buy 100+ of the US adapters and send them :-)

What's your source for this picture?

Strange that they would leave the jack underneath. What if you missed with the drill??
