Could somebody from the US ask to t-mobile if a t-mobile contract-free iPhone can be activated in Europe with an European carrier nanosim?

By the time the t-mobile contract free 128gb iPhone that a pal of mine has purchased in Norfolk gets to me i won't be able to return it. If it would not work i still can tell my mate to bring it back to the Apple Store.

Huge thanks in advance

This is a shop in Athens where I bought a US iPhone 6. I am sure such retailers exist in Spain as well. I believe if you search a little you will find them. Certainly in Madrid. My iPhone had a t mobile card inside which I removed after purchase and placed my Vodafone nano sim instead. Everything works fine.

I hope so...otherwise i might commit suicide.

Thanks for the reassurance mate!

From my understanding only locked phones (locked to T-mobile through contract) need to be activated with the network's sim card.
Unlocked phones (contract free) can be activated with any sim card... same here in Asia.

If it's not carrier locked it will work, there is only one GSM version of the iPhone 6 and it works globally otherwise...

I have a t-mobile contract-free iPhone 6 (and i had an iPhone 5s contract-free from t-mobile) and both work/ed flawlessly with my carrier. But i purchased them second hand and they had already been activated.

This time around i have just purchased (from apple.com) the t-Mobile contract-free iPhone 6 128gb to be collected in a Norfolk Apple Store by a mate that is there for business and will return on February 17th. Unfortunately, he is not what i'd call a tech savvy guy so until the iPhone is not here it won't be activated and by then all the return terms will have expired. A pal of mine had an ugly experience with an Sprint iPhone a few weeks back (basically he never could activate it) hence i'm going a bit paranoid.

It's a shame that having the dough one have to face so many hurdles just to get the 1 volt version of the iPhone because of some nasty politicians have decided that they know better than Apple engineers and the rest of the world. But as Tom Petty sang : i won't back down.

End of rant.

Thank you guys

Tom Petty is the man.
I do wonder if there is good reason to cap the output of the phone.

Just off the phone with a t-Mobile manager:

He assured me that even if a T-Mobile iPhone is contract free it will not work with any other carrier until it has been used for 40 days on US soil with the T-Mobile nanosim.

Beware with this issue no American buyers. A 900$ brick ain't pretty.

If yo go on to apple.com it looks like you would need to pick, the sim free option. If you click the little plus sign after choosing it tells you this option is the A1586 which is the phone that will work in Europe straight out the box.
My problem is you can't put anything but a US zip code in for the delivery address, lol .

The US online store doesn't deliver usually outside US. If you don't have a forwarding service you are probably out of luck.

@elfary just choose the SIM free option. as @jimbojangles mentioned.

Problem with A1586 is that is the model sold in Europe. If it breaks i will get a capped replacement whereas with the A1549 i'm always covered in that regard.

Worst of all is that i have bothered good hearted people without clearing this activation issue.

EU lawmakers were concerned about the amount of young people suffering from permanent hearing loss due to self-inflicted damage.

Generally I think it's a good thing but there should be a way to circumvent it once you are legally an adult (18+).

Has anyone updated iOS to 8.1.3?
If you haven't I highly suggest you DO NOT.
Two new issues have popped from updating from 8.1.2.

1. Occasional lag for about 5-10 seconds
2. Audio quality drops like crazy after lag and needs a reboot. Almost like going from 320k to 96k or lower.

Im gonna downgrade to 8.1.2 ASAP

I don't have any of this on my iPhone 6 128GB?

If you want to downgrade you better do it quick since the signing of "older" versions usually gets retired pretty quickly and then you can't "Verify" the OS anymore with Apple.
