5,5c,5s then things changed as from the 6!

The 5C was released within 2 weeks of the 5S as a lower cost counterpart, so I would count the 5C as part of the same generation as the 5S.

You're right mate ! Every Apple device is getting '' optimized for Beats '' , I'm afraid that the next iphone 7 or 6S doesn't meet headfiers' expectations anymore

@krismusic

Guys, you all forget that apple already was one of the biggest earphone producers of the world, if not the largest (by volume) because they shipped a set with every iPod and iPhone, and did they make a proprietary standard out of it? No, they could have made that all along, much easier, they had already full control.

However, I am not doubting that we might see some beats EQ settings etc in future iPhones. But I highly doubt that Apple will make anything worse for no apparent reason.

Remember, beats started to make decent headphones recently that win the praise of audiophiles and that had nothing to do with the apple acquisition, it started already before that with the Solo2 that made it in the wall of fame from innerfidelity. So, I see the future much brighter for Apple users.

But if you want to FUD around, so be it ;-)

Apple took 4 generations to change the screen size from 4 to 4.7 inches, let's hope that the Sq won't be affected so soon

I count 2:

4S -  3.5
5 - 4.0
5C/5S - 4.0
6 - 4.7 / 5.5

So, it took them 2 generations or 12 month to increase from releasing the first 4.0 inch to releasing the first 4.7/5.5

And what does that have to do with SoundQuality? Love this logic.

Apple buying Beats was like their coming out -- admitting publicly that itunes was about to get run over by Spotify. Headphones were a throwaway.

I agree. They saw the trend of declining music sales and launching their own iTunes radio - well, didn't go so well. Apple is really good at making products people love but services sometimes totally suck. I mean remember "Ping" the iTunes social network. LOOOL what a disaster that was. MobileMe and iCloud also had a long and painful way to get where they are today.

So, I believe it's much better to buy a good service, than to try it yourself when you obviously don't have the talent to do it right.

Streaming is the future. When I look at the younger people, for them music is on youtube. When I would ask them, hey what's in your iTunes library, they would look at me like I asked, how is your postal stamp collection going?

Apple is company focused solely on maximizing profit. They make their own processors (system on a chip). You guys know that if they could be bothered to make their own dac, they wouldn't buy from Cirrus Logic even if it meant inferior sound quality. For now iPhone SQ is fine due to Cirrus Logic chips, just pray they don't decide to make their own dac implemented on SoC.

Their in-house designed (not produced) chips have the best performance per core in the marketplace. In Q4 2012, their dual core CPU and 1GB RAM configuration was besting Android's best quad core + 2/3GB setups. In fact, it's the only company that is willing to invest in custom CPU architecture, where as every other top 10 smartphone OEM uses strictly ARM design - because it's cheaper than reinventing the wheel. Lastly, Apple drops more money on R&D than Cirrus Logic's net worth.
