iPhone 6 & 6 Plus Audio Quality

I've been using a 6 plus for a week now and it sounds darn good with my ie8 and my home made Apple Lossless rips. It seems to really shine with lossless files. So far impressed.

I just got a new iPhone 6 128GB, and immediately the audio sounded better to me than my iPhone 5.  As a matter of fact, I had been using the iPhone 5 with a Vamp Verza, and the Audioforge Equalizer app, along with my V-Moda XS; now, with the iPhone 6, I am using the same gear, and when I take the Vamp Verza out of the chain, I am not hearing much difference.

I'm adjusting the EQ a bit, dropping the mid-bass levels (160-250Hz area) down by 2-3dB, and getting excellent sound without the external amp in the chain.  I may have a Vamp Verza for sale . . .:)

+1 to both the reaction and the potential sale. Though my setup is with a westone 4r and an iPhone 5s.

Have you had any issues with popping?

I got a 6 plus, and I'm hearing a lot of noise crossing over when the radio is active.

Never had this problem with the 4s this was replacing, using the same gear.

Maybe the cable I'm using isn't sitting as well as it was in the 4s, making the grounding bad?

Thats's the way it is,

CENELEC white paper sets 2 limits 85 decibels allowing user to turn it off enabling it to reach 100 decibels (both sound pressure levels calculated with bundled earphones).

So no you can't get rid of the EU 2nd limit via menu->volume limit->eu toggle off

It's easy to check: you will never get your european iPhone get as loud as your european iPad (which are not capped because they don't sell with bundled earphones thus rendering useless the EU white paper). But a non european iPhone will get as loud as an iPad.

And that is not to mention the screen self turning on to tell you it's getting loud...

Last year i swore to myself that i won't ever purchase again a handicapped iPhone. Had an european 5s and it was frustrating on certain albums/headphones where the american 5s pulls them off without a hitch.
fully respect your opinion and a valuable piece of information, that's sealed it for me, U.S iPhone it is!

Tomorrow i might buy a gold iPhone 6 128gb purchased in New York by the father of a buddy of mine. It's the gsm version contract-free from T-Mobile. It's unlocked and will work with any sim according to the 5th Avenue Apple store staff.

I really like mine. There are a few glitches especially when turning the phone horizontally. They'll figure it out. The only thing I miss is no untethered jailbreak at the moment. IMO it will be available by the end of the year.

Tried an european iPhone 6. Capped as expected. My US iPhone 5s had more than enough headroom when all the red lights on the European 6 were lit up.

Listened on the 6 to a few tunes that happened to be on my american 5s and...

...I'm backing out of the iPhone 6 assault.

To me is almost blatant that the 5s has more clarity, openness and tighter bass. Sounds more pure if you like. Unfortunately imho the (usually unreliable) gsmarena measurements hinted at the truth: step back.

The 6 reminds me of the tone of old iPhone 4 and 3Gs which i enjoyed an awful lot back in the day. But after the 5s i dislike their artificial warmth and i'd rather take the quicker and tigher bass of the 5s (which sounds clearer and more open as a result).

Note: earphones used were Westone UM3x (for quality) and TDK BA200 (for output power testing).

128Gb iPod Touch 5...i'm expecting you

I think I'll keep my iPhone 5S for the time being. From what I've read, I'm not really impressed with the iPhone 6. The fact that It's not waterproof, bends easy in the pocket and the the dreaded awful EU volume cap has saved me from buying one. Also, IMO I prefer the design of the iPhone 4/4S/5/5S. Maybe once a jailbreak is released and it's possible to remove the EU volume cap using iFile I'll think about maybe buying an iPhone 6 but not now.

 I can relate to that.

As i don't need more screen i have felt hardly pressed to fork out serious dough for an iPhone that screen aside is very similar to the 5s, whose design i dislike a bit (that strips on the back are ugly to me) and whose sound has seemed to me more of a step back than forward.

In any case i need to test the sound again because i have walked out the store seriously underwhelmed by the lack of sonic improvement. I might be having a bad aural day :)

Yeah, the strips on the back of the phone really are ugly. In fact the iPhone 6 is ugly and probably the most ugly and non inspiring device Jonathan Ive and Apple have designed IMO which is a shame considering most of Apple's devices that he has worked on are a work of beauty.

Not sure if you can take just V^2/P to get output resistance, but if you do, the output resistance is a disappointing 33 Ohms.

That math does not seem to work. I have listened to it with multidriver balanced armatures and they sounded quite linear to me (which would not be the case with a z of 33).
