Introducing the STAX SRM-T8000 - Head-Fi TV

The input tubes are barely turned on and so should last a long, long time. Remember that if you listen for an average of 2 hours every single day without exception, 10,000 hours is over 13 years. How many people even keep a component for that long?

Wouldn't the Headphones be having problems ways before this 13 years ?

Nope. My Stax SR-5 from the 1970s and my Lambda Nova Signatures from the 1990s are still working well. Ali-Pacha and spritzer both have lots of Stax headphones going back that far, that are still in working order.

Thank you! I am glad to hear that. I am new to Stax world, and get a bit nervous when people reported that 009 can break here and there...and problems such as channel imbalanced. I love my 009 very very much, and I hope she will stay with me for a very long time :)

Indeed. My SR-5 were bought by my father (RIP) in 1977, and they're still rocking out of my BHSE.
Looking at imbalance :
- I bought SR-5 gold from Netherlands 3 years ago, right channel was decaying, recoating with rinse aid solved the issue
- My pair of Sigma pro have a shy right channel for the first 60-90 seconds
One may look at measurements of those cans on another site.

Currently at the Stax office in Japan giving the SRM-T8000 a listen - although I've heard it quite a few times at shows, this is the first time I'm listening to it in a proper quiet Stax listening room.

It does seem to emphasise more on the warmth of the SR-009 and take that polish at the top (upper treble) to sound a little more rounded. Coming from a few years of an Eddie Current Electra I actually feel I miss the trebles a little in the SRM-T8000.

The SRM-T8000 to my ears seem to make the SR-009 a little more speaker-like too...so more musical.

I also have the SR-007Mk2 & L700 & I think from a tonality perspective, the L700 & SRM-T8000 are the best match to my ears (again I'll stress from a tonal perspective). The SR-009 will have the edge of resolution of the L700 but the L700 has the edge in terms of tonal synergy with the T8000.

Going back to more listening...

Edit: separation sounds more distinctive on the 009's

I really envy you Anakchan!
They've left me in the room for the past hr and I'm telling myself I should go out to be sociable but I just can't seem to get my butt off the sofa. I'm listening to whatever I've got on my source switching back 'n forth between the 009's & 700's :).

So my ears were not deceiving me per your interpretation with the L700 & SRM-T8000. In addition, I felt the same when listening to the SR-900. I am thinking about heading back to Tokyo tomorrow for another listen. Although, with that said, am I really in the market for the Stax T8K, hmmm....

There is no place to audition the BHSE in Japan ?
'
I would love to audition the BHSE, but may need to wait until I get back to the states or the next time I get to an audio show. Anyone know if the BHSE will make a visit to the Tokyo show in September?

Send Justin an email ? Otherwise any shows in the states has a big possibility for it to come. I would suggest to hear the BHSE before buying the t8000 :D . Then when you think you like BHSE, go for KG T2 instead LOL
