100+ Head-Fier
The closest of my collection is the Susvara. But, even then, they don't sound that similar. I think it is just that the Susvara is the only other headphone I have that is so clear beyond the mids.
I've not heard the Stax or AMT that @M3NTAL mentioned above, and no one headphone comes close for me. But mulling it over, if I had to describe the LCD-R in relation to other headphones, I'd say it's the offspring of a naughty weekend between the Final Audio D8000 (the original, not the Pro versions) and the Raal CA-1a with donut pads.Do any of their other headphones sound like these? Or is this still a more unique sound for them?
I did not even think about that. I put the original amp in my closet since the whole reason I bought RAAL's thing was so I could use my other amps. I will have to try that out when I get home.Do you think the resistor box permanently changed the way the LCD-R sounds or you believe going back to the Jot-R, the system sounds "normal"
Well it has been requested countless times. I would expect something with that Tech at some point.I wonder if they will make another one of these with something more manageable like 8Ω or even better, coming with RAAL style resistor box. Perhaps in the new MM style design language. It seems like it'd be a homerun.
Do you prefer the 16ohm or 32ohm TI-1b input for the Bliss (assuming you still own the Bliss). Have you played around much with the difference in the two input resistances it presents to the amp? I have a CA-1a and TI-1b arriving on Monday and am excited for that combo, but would also love to potentially play with the LCD-R with more competent amps at some point.I'd put the CA-1a against just about any headphone tbh, it's one of my favorites. Tons of detail/clarity/air yet also has bass impact.
I've actually never even used the Jot-A with my LCD-R, sorry. No point when the RAAL box let me hook it right up to my Bliss. No way is the Jot-A going to outperform the Bliss.
number1sixerfan is another one who ranks the CA-1a among his favorites and he's heard the best of the best, HE-1, Shangri-La Sr, SR-Omega, etc.
On my speaker amps I prefer the 16ohm, on Bliss it's closer and I haven't really clearly settled on one over the other so I typically just leave it on 16.Do you prefer the 16ohm or 32ohm TI-1b input for the Bliss (assuming you still own the Bliss). Thanks @gammi, gives me a good starting point and glad you have had solid results. On my speaker amps I prefer the 16ohm, on Bliss it's closer and I haven't really clearly settled on one over the other so I typically just leave it on 16.
Yup, stock cable, pins are the sameMore questions @gammi, are you using the LCD-R with the Stock LCD-R cable out of the TI-1b? I'm assuming the pinouts are the same between the TI-1b output and the CA-1a and LCD-R? Just want to make sure I don't end up reversing polarities or if I need an adapter to use the LCD-R stock cable.
