Introducing the Astell&Kern A&ultima SP2000T
Jan 4, 2022 at 12:54 AM Post #421 of 455
Well, considering that I've only had time to update it and then load my music into it, with no burn-in at all, I'm impressed. It's hard to quantify how it compares with the SP1K just because of no burn-in, but overall the sound has more body and more bass with my 60's rock regardless of the Amp used. I have to say the Tube is a lot of fun, though I seem to keep going back to Hybrid half-and-half. So far I'm sticking with the default filter. Treble is perhaps a bit up there, but I think it will calm down a bit with burn-in, and I like treble. I'm most impressed with guitar sounds, lots of tones above and below the notes. All this is with an EE Zeus and a PWA 1960 2-wire. I'll be able to give better feedback after I put 50 hours or so on it. My SP1K took about 100 hours to settle in, so it will be a while before I'm comfortable making distinct comparisons. But certainly no buyer's remorse here.

I only own Apple products - I have hear that Astell & Kern uses Android and prefers Microsoft? Is this true? Also it should sound great with my Vision Ears Phonix. But has the device the power to drive the Diana TC? Thanks for your reply in advance.

Hiya folks,

Need help in deciding between sp2000t / sp2000 and chord hugo 2 totl transportable solution.
Genre: Rock pop vocals

Requirements transportable solution.
Gear planning to use LCD-XC and IE900.
Currently Mojo is not doing any justice with the Audeze, my macbook sounds better than the Mojo.

Any help would be appreciated. It is a significant investment. Thanks

You are going to walk with it while listening or simply move it to one location and then another? If walking, either SP (though the T is considerably lighter as it is aluminum). My T is much lighter than is my SP1K SS, which I believe is lighter than is the SP2K.

I checked out the SP2000T at canjam nyc via my MDR-Z1R, not bad, I really liked it on Hybrid mode; But the ACRO CA1000 is also amazing, gotta wait until the new walkmans are out before I pull the trigger.

Today, I will share my impressions on the Astell&Kern Ultima SP2000T and discuss any incremental changes in firmware or performance from the initial first look video

we did on the SP2000T. In that video, I discussed some of the features, build quality, design and gave some brief impressions on the sound quality of the SP2000T.

This video will focus on the quality of sound paired with several different headphones and some comparisons vs. the Chord Hugo 2/2go combo, my reference portable headphone amplifier, and DAC.

Have a wonderful weekend friends!
Marcello

Personally I want R2R with with tubes, then it's the ToTL for me.
Since someone liked this old Statement of mine just recently, I might update my view on this.

Over the years I heard more and more different gear and different Implementations.

While I generally prefer the analogue sound of R2R and tubes, there are D/S Implementations that sound even more analogue than pure R2R.
It's all about the Implementation in the end!

Agreed, because R2R or Sigma Delta is not a topology to do digital conversion. There are only 2 topology, it is Oversampling or None over sampling. If any R2R is using Oversampling , they can be worse than Sigma Delta that is using Oversampling. The same for R2R and NOS, they will do better than Sigma Delta that is doing emulations of NOS :).

Let’s your ears be the judge, one should not simply be relying on technology and white paper to assume or determine which is or not better than another

Hi all, i just got my SP2000T so far i love it. Been learning the UI and other stuff. I have a question on the playlist format. I have a Mac, and have Dapper. At least as far as i can tell the player does not like the export settings i used for the playlists, they worked with my fiio M15. Do any of you have a good suggestion/setting for Dapper or another app on the Mac to sync my library with?

Tos-Link out of the 3.5 port is how I do it. Your 2000T has a manual in Internal. Pull it out and look it up. If you haven't purchased one yet, just Google the manual.

I have the 2000T and the SP1K as well. The SP1K is now hooked up to my Kef speakers through an amp, and the T is for mobile use. I love its sound, it is almost always set on Hybrid. It is lighter than the SP1K and the 2000, so for me that's an added plus. I've had the AK 120 ll, the 240 SS, the SP1K SS and now the T. They just keep getting better.

Need some recommendations please!

For CanJam SoCal this year, we are looking to demo our players with a variety of headphones from different manufacturers. In the past, we always demoed with AK-branded headphones and IEMs. Looking for recommendations for headphones you have used that you feel are a good fit for the SP2000T or would like to demo with our players if you are attending the show. Please feel free to PM me with any recommendations so we do not clog up the thread.

Appreciate the help and looking forward to hopefully seeing some of you at CanJam SoCal in September!
