Shanling M8T represents one of our most impactful releases in recent memory, as it brings alongside many aspects of the Shanling’s heritage, while taking a significant step towards the future of our Android Portable Players.

Starting with the most obvious, M8T is our first portable player with built-in Tube output. Shanling’s history is closely connected to Hi-Fi tubes, as they were prominently featured on some of our most acclaimed CD players and Amplifiers over many years. So it was about time to bring them to our lineup of Portable players, with a pair of JAN6418 tubes implemented into the top of the M8T.

When designing the audio circuit of M8T, we had to keep in mind its predecessor, the original Shanling M8 released in 2020. Known for its rich warm sound and exquisite bass presentation, the aim was to recreate it as closely as possible with the new flagship AKM DACs, their matching Delta-Sigma modulators and our latest generation of headphone amplifier.

And because we understand that tubes might not be ideal for all types of headphones or music, we made sure that the M8T can switch quickly between its tube-enhanced output and the pure transistor mode.

Inside the unit hides upgraded Android system, now running on Android 13 and providing many years of software updates and problem-free app compatibility. M8T comes with our standard open system for easy installation of any 3rd party music apps and Streaming services, supported by Shanling’s Android Global Lossless Output technology for ensured bit-perfect audio data processing.

And with Shanling M9 Plus ending its production in the summer of 2024, M8T will also serve as the new flagship of the Portable line, while retailing at just 1499 USD MSRP.

You can find all the details and specifications of Shanling M8t on its dedicated Product Page

M8T is now shipping to our international distributors and can be purchased from our official E-Shop.

Are this DIY headphone amp a source for M8T?
JAN6418 Valve (Tube) Preamplifier / Headphone Amp Kit - https://www.diyaudioprojects.com/Tubes/6418-Tube-Preamp-Headphone-Kit/

More about the JAN6418 tubes https://www.radiomuseum.org/tubes/tube_ck6418.html
The JAN6418 sub-miniature pentode tube has been used in a couple portable tube amps as well as a few DAPs from other established manufacturers already. So definitely not based off of that headphone amp kit. The kit you linked is an older version. I built the latest version of that kit with my own special touches and the amp does sound nice.

Back on topic. The last Shanling DAP I bought was the M3X, so now the M8T has really piqued my interest and will most likely get it.

Dual tubes means no true balanced iirc? Jan6418 are single channel tubes
Yep, would need 4 tubes for true balanced. Since a block diagram is not shown (yet), most likely concept is DAC balanced > single ended > tube enhanced > single ended > balanced. Cayin N3Ultra is using this theme, not sure about A&K SP3000T, but also 2 tubes, so probably a similar concept.

Sp3000t has tubes that have 2 channels each, so it has true balanced. These these tubes seem awesome, just wish someone would implement them in true balanced :)

SP3000T is using the same tube, JAN6418. Are they packing 4 tubes into that DAP then? I believe it's only a pair of the tubes, not a quad set. KAEI TAP-1 portable tube amp is using a quad set of these tubes for true balanced.
