Aff3
After a certain point, how a DAP sounds with your other gear may be more synergy related. The M6 PRO AKM sounds better than FIIO M15 and AK380, my last 2 DAPs. Not saying M6 Pro will outperform those DAPs with all gears. I only use Westone ES60 CIEMs. It takes so little to drive and is very sensitive. I often find some "high-end" DAPs have untamed noise level. That alone can be very distracting and affect sound quality.
Affects transparency most.

I was just kidding, I agree.

Sound is very subjective and mostly comes down to personal preference (your headphones play a major role). I preferred Lotoo Paw 6000 to Paw Gold Touch and M11 Pro to M15.

I don't stream so the software issues don't really bug me (no pun intended), but I do agree that given the price of some of these DAPs they shouldn't be plagued with software issues & the UI/interface is an integral part of the whole experience. It does say something that many of us who own Shanling DAPs don't actually use the native Shanling music app.
It is interesting to me to hear that a lot of users are streaming with this DAP. I having a “growing” personal music collection but still do a large portion of my listening through Apple Music so I’m curious as to the previous issues and hopeful they are resolved. This DAP seems to check all the other boxes.

I have the FiiO M15 as well as the M8. I'd say the M15 sounds 'different'. The M15 has a more balanced & neutral sound and I mainly use it to evaluate IEMs. I also sometimes use it with more bass heavy/tilted IEMs. I definitely agree pairing/synergy is very important.

One of the well-known reviewers here just tested the noise level between M8, M9, Hiby RS6 and Ibasso DX300 with Westone ES60 (we both have the ES60). M8 and M9 both have pitch black background. RS6 and DX300 have waterfall hiss. I assume M7's noise level should be similar to M8 and M9. I'm really impressed with Shanling's approach to DAPs. Too many manufacturers can't get noise level low enough.

That aspect should be requested by the community with a way more higher priority. I always wonder how people listen to music with that much hiss. I had the RS6 and sold it due to hiss. The only DAP so far that had no hiss at all was the P6 Pro for me. I also heard from a friend the M9 was very very low in hiss but not hiss free.

How about Fiio M17? I hear it's hiss free too

So just place the preorder without the leather case, and it will come with the leather case?

Query re outputs -it seems that there are now separate 3.5 mm SE and 4.4 mm balanced outputs. I assume that these are both PO/LO and can be set to function as either via software? Anyone have one yet to comment? Or @MusicTeck , Andrew?

Yes, they are separate and the Lineout-mode affects both of them.
