Introducing Shanling EC Mini - Transportable CD Player & DAP

Don’t buy the EC Mini with the intention of carrying it around like your 90’s Sony CD Walkman. It’s best for carrying from room to room, rather than from home to work.

BUT...

I simply cannot use this if the gapless issue isn't sorted out. I am primarily a classical listener and 99% of my collection requires gapless playing or the gap in between tracks is very noticeable.

I am going to have to return the EC Mini if Shanling is unable to solve the gapless problem. I have the current firmware and the "gapless" slider (on/off) in the playback menu does nothing.

I agree. It's useless for classical.

The ET3 is pretty sorted out though.

That's great to hear, but I purchased the Mini specifically because it is easily transportable.

I am mainly a classical listener and having gap between the tracks is very very annoying, I am hoping they might be able to resolve this via firmware update.

The issue is, do I wait to see if firmware will fix the problem? If they aren't able to figure it out and I have gone beyond my return window, what then?

Shanling doesn't work quickly. Nor have they admitted an issue.

I've only run into about 20% of my CDs being truly gapless and an issue.

At this time we have no information from software team when or if the gapless playback for CDs might be added.

That's really unfortunate. I was really liking this model, but it seems I will have to return it.

Why would you not add gapless playback if it is possible. There are many CDs that are live shows and continuous and shows should be gapless. Is it possible, if so please make it happen

Interestingly enough, gapless CD transports are not the norm these days. I guess I should've saved my old Sony Discman.

What about the upcoming SACD unit? Would it be gapless?

It works the same way as ET3, so there might be a tiny gap if you really focus on it, but not something you would notice in use with normal music.
