I have the WM1Z (455g), and recently purchased a Shanling M1 Plus as I thought it would be perfect as a smaller, lighter player, which I have found exponentially ups my listening time. But then the old addiction of taking it up a notch or 2 creeps in and I had the idea of adding a dongle like the DC Elite to cater for those times. I'm in Japan on holiday and I got to demo a few dongles including the Elite, but then found the dap section, tried the M5 Ultra, did a u-turn, totally compromised on the size thing, and had now focused on that. As I was going back to try some iems I spotted the XM5, which I had totally forgotten to look for, and finally got to give it a go. I didn't A/B with the M5u, but was really taken with sound. Although the demo tracks only included 3 that I had on my M1+ to directly compare, every track I listened to honestly blew me away with the presentation. Another swaying factor is that it is slightly shorter than the M5u (I have small hands), also the M5u's odd angular shape just doesn't feel right. The cherry on the top is that it has the inputs and volume dial on the bottom! Perfect location whether on my desk or in my pocket.
I had budgeted for a used iem and dongle, but a used XM5 will up that a fair bit. They aren't sold in my country, and the import taxes + extra add-ons at that price point aren't worth it.
As this is a big spend, and it's not a brand I am familiar with, I'd just like to ask if this dap has good reliability for hardware?

I have the xm5 its built like a tank i did get the leather case for protection for the volume wheel. I love the the ability to flip the screen to make it a landscape player. I'm a dap addict and have many the XM5 gets most playtime.
Thanks for your reassurance guys.
It definitely feels like a tank, but almost half the weight of my WM1Z, which I've come to realize really turns me off using it, even around the house.
In the update description it says that they added cover art to folder navigation ?
Hope it works OK for all folders.
And not with restrictions or limitations.
That was one of the (numerous) flaws of the software.
It is a nice addition, no questions asked...
But you can not forget (or forgive) it arriving 3 years too late.
Does anyone have a comparison of this Onix with the Shanling M5 Ultra?
I'm especially interested in the high frequencies, their quantity and quality.
Technically they are very similar, different DACs, but I think everything else is the same.
The M5 Ultra has a slightly warmer sound. What kind of sound does the Onix have?
