As always, if your equipment has options, play with them and see what you like. But if you want what is clearly the most technically accurate – that is, high fidelity – output from your DAC, choose fast roll-off or sharp-roll-off, and linear phase (or no named phase) rather than minimal phase.
I bought the XM5 this week and am currently going through the menu and making sure I can figure everything out. I find the manual not too helpful when it comes to explaining how to transfer files.
I am unable to get Bluetooth to copy files from my computer to the XM5. I am on a Mac (14.2.1) using Bluetooth File Exchange. They pair fine. The XM5 shows up as connected. I choose the folder, files, or file to send and each time I get "The device does not have the necessary services." I'm running the most recent firmware. I've reset both my computer and the XM5 several times, and I keep getting this error. Right now I am unable to send files via Bluetooth.

There is no way how to send files over Bluetooth to XM5.
Easiest way, you can connect XM5 to your computer over USB cable. Just make sure XM5 is set to USB Storage mode (In swipe down menu). Then the MicroSD card will show up as external drive and you can directly copy files there.

Hi again,
I've run into 2 more issues I'm hoping to get some assistance with:
1. When I swipe down to get the menu, the displayed time of day is in 24 hour time, but on the rest of the screens it is in 12 hour time. Under Date and time" 24-hour is switched off.
2. On my Artist list I am getting an "Unknown Artist." In my Album list I am getting "Unknown Album." Both are empty but I can not delete them from the lists. I tried deleting everything on my storage card, but it still comes back each time. There seems to be no way to delete it.

I've now had the XM5 for 2 weeks and I have to say, wow. This is a great device. I fell in love with Shanling players with the (original) M5 back in 2016. I don't buy a lot of DAPs so I wanted to get this one right. My goal was to find a player that I could use next to me as I sit at a desk. The design of the XM5 is perfect as its tactile buttons are on the face of the unit making it easy to use without needing to grab the device.
The sound is exquisite and the player is beautiful. I am using Sennheiser HD600s and Aful Performer 8 iems. Both are easy to drive and do well with the XM5. I use SpinFit W1 eartips.
I had to work out a few questions (as evidenced by my posts above) but everything is running great. Features I'd love to see added are:
- Additional options for the swirly gold, nightscape wallpaper used for the menu screens - not a big fan of it.
- Ability to "sticky" the Album tab when you select Artist and want to select Album play (it always defaults to Track.)
Just updated to ver 1.8 and there is a interesting change to the sound such that it isn't as full as before but has sharp and precise transients now. Still tilted warm but with less body sustain it sounds more neutral which I like.
But I got the XM5 because it was both full bodied and had good imaging. This kinna makes it a little more generic. Still worth though imo.

I have updated and didn't notce sound change but will try to listen more closely...bottom line still sounds excellent. I didn't like the trebble too much on xm5 on some iems (like it has some peaks maybe) so I will check if all that is the same.
Same.
Despite many claims about a new firmware altering the sound on other devices (from Shanling or other manufacturers) I have never been able to hear a difference between the same device with different firmwares...
But then again, I am now 54 years old and I may not have the same hearing accuragcy that I used to have
