I found a solution for the creaking issue. If you use plumbers grease (like $3 at Home Depot) and apply it to the part that creaks the most. It should get rid of the creaking. I tried it a couple days ago and it’s still gone!

Just got the M4, and will test out the sound difference from my M3.
From your post, ANC cannot be switched off and hope there will be a firmware update for it.

When my M4 is different in the Adaptive mode, I cant slide the control between the ANC/Transparency mode nor pinch the hardware to adjust it. It is only possible to pinch or slide on screen when the Adaptive mode if switched off.

I updated the firmware when I got it, can you advice.

Unfortunately after a few weeks of having this new pair, it looks like they have creaking too on the same side. It's a bit disappointing.

I'll try Kyle's solution. I have some keyboard switch lube at home, if that doesn't work, I'll try the plumbers grease.

Guys you should use silicone grease on plastics. Transparent, no smell, no chemical interaction. I used this on XM4.

I tried the keyboard switch lubricant ( GPL 205g0 ) on both the horizontal hinge and the two plastic bits holding the cups in place on both sides with a very small brush. As per its data sheet, it shouldn't damage plastics/polymers. I went with less rather than more. GPL 205 is high viscosity and too much of it can result in lube farts when two parts rub against each other.

I figured I'd try what I already have on hand. Silicone grease might get the job done, but I'd be afraid to apply too much of it.

So far so good, it has completely eliminated the creaking on both sides of the headphones. Works like a dream. A bit weird that those plastic bits don't come pre-lubed.

I have no idea how they stack up versus M3's. This is my first Momentum product. My references are HD660S, HD560S, HD599 and HD598cs for the most part.

Today I compared the Momentum 4 (Roon via Airplay to WiiM Mini via Bluetooth back to headphones) to my RS 185s (Roon to CCA), and I have to give the nod to Momentum 4. More detail, oomph, clarity to my ears, though the RS 185s still sound great and very very close to the Momentum 4. I know it’s kinda apples to oranges with my streaming path as noted above … but I would have thought the RS 185s path using just CCA would have beaten the pants off of the WiiM Mini via bluetooth to Momentum 4 path. I plan to still use both … very very happy with the Momentum 4. RS 185s are lighter / a bit more comfy on my head though.

Hey, Sennheiser why there's such a poor quality controle ? its all over youtube and amazon.
People have to even spend $50-100 as shipping charges for an replacement after the return period is over. i'm talking both at hardware level and software level.

Thanks for your comment. We are aware of many of the user cases, and always suggest a customer with any issue reach out to us for eligible warranty options.

I cannot speak much to shipping charges, but $50 to $100 seems both excessive and a really wide range for just ground shipping unless the customer is using expedited or international options.

We take all of the support requests seriously and are looking into these reports. There are in fact many updates on the horizon to address and optimize the current experience.

The 2 year warranty is absolutely in effect for new purchases from authorized dealers and suggest customers utilize it if required. Overall complaints and returns are quite small which is good in that we can isolate and rectify issues. We appreciate the feedback and detailed responses (device used, OS version, use case, etc) so we can determine how to continuously improve.

As such, I am under the impression while M4W might sound better (I love HD6xx and Chord Mojo, and that is why I only use these ANC in traffic), given the background noise, the better ANC from XM5 might allows me to have better music?

OR the ANC improvement from XM5 is not so relevant once the music is on?

If only Apt X how do we know if Apt X Adaptive is being utilised?
