Introducing HIFIMAN Susvara Unveiled: Elevating Audio Excellence!

Any person who takes the distortion profile and impedances of an OTL tube amp and goes "oh man! Look how bad this is!" is an idiot who deserves unendeding scorn.

People hang off this dude's every word. Didn't you see the comment of the guy asking if ASR is going to get a pair of these? Even though headphones.com has superior measurement gear?

People who’s main source of income is sponsorship money from manufacturers and then claims to provide impartial reviews of their products and never says anything bad ever especially at the beginning so the hype is sky high and a lot of them sell - how much scorn do they deserve?

If your main job is advertising why pretend to be a reviewer?

Yes, I trust Resolve and prefer him over ASR. Have zero issues with Headphones.com who allow him to do his thing.

I’m more surprised that Headfi hasn’t measured them….

I’m sure the headphone show will have a thorough review with measurements.

Also I know that ASR is not popular here and I don’t agree with Amir on many things but I find his reviews a refreshing change to the gushing praise that is the norm in the audiophile press. I despise gushing praise 😂

If the original Susvara was so perfect you wouldn’t have dozens of owners putting them up for sale with zero idea of how the new one sounds.
It's tough. I'd rather have gushing praise that I can identify for what it is, than a biased review disguised as impartial.

Sorry to derail. I'm looking forward to demo'ing these at the next canjam socal. The price may be out of reach for many of us, but it should help the used market for the existing susvara, which is a trickle down win.

putting this here as a date/price marker for the OG Sus... from the Hifiman site

New 3.5 $6,000.00

Look at the HE1k family cost falling. It's better for everyone. If the Sus is re-bracketed outside of it's life cycle at 3.5k new then hell yeah. It's now SUPER competitive in it's second breath in that bracket.

It would be nice if that would happen as it would put the Susvara OG within a price point I would consider buying it. I already have a pair of mono blocks sitting on my desk for hard to drive planar headphones (so the supporting equipment is already there). It is doubtful that they will do that right away if at all, due to there being enough breathing room between the two versions at the moment.

Then it will die at its current price 🤭.
The R&D is already done. They either move units and adapt or kill their own former flagship as it has been supplanted.

If it falls. I'll heavily consider it. If it doesn't, I'll get a stabilized Caldera. I missed out on the color I wanted both previous releases, I will wait 🤭

Tungsten DS and Horizon will most likely be my next purchases as far as headphones go, but not until after I purchase my Yggdrasil MIB early next year. 😉

some are saying to them the Tungsten DS sound as good if not better than the Sus.... it does sound very good.... good enough that it would be hard to justify that there is a cost difference of $4000.... for the cost of a Sus at $6K you can buy the Tungsten DS for $2k and have a budget of $4K for an end game tube amp

Why wouldn't they measure great on a head?
When I had a chance to measure them with in-ear mics, the FR was pretty reasonable, though with some small peaks, the main issue being the inconsistency of the bass; the Expanse and E3 having been much better in that regard. The E3 was probably overall the closest to my actual speaker HRTF, but had other issues that I won't say. I cannot share the graphs for ethical reasons of these having been demo units, but I will say the conclusion was that my EQed Meze Elite was surprisingly not outmatched.
