From what little I could read (but was looking for confirmation or denial) Obsidian is a little less warm than Black. Some detail and a bit more spirited sound.
I think Obsidian was made and tuned for the Asian market, whatever that means.

Obsidian tuning should be more vocal centric than the black

Strangely no one has mentioned this in any of the LP threads thus far. But here is the link to LP’s Weibo’s page:

google translate. You can also go the blog and there is option to translate:

“Although the LP6 series has been on the market for several years, its "flagship status" has not faded. Because the output is high and the size of the potentiometer is limited, some audiophiles with sensitive hearings report that the LP6 has a larger bias sound when used with moving iron earplugs. To alleviate this problem, we start directly from the potentiometer and provide a new customized volume adjustment solution.

The good news for "obsessive-compulsive disorder" - -70dB left and right channel error is only 2dB

Among several mainstream small-volume volume adjustment solutions suitable for portable players on the market, carbon film potentiometers have more volume levels and finer adjustments than step potentiometers; compared with the internal attenuation of DACs, they do not sacrifice dynamic details. , there will be no additional noise and distortion, and the noise and signal will be attenuated year-on-year. However, carbon film potentiometers generally have the problem of unbalanced low-volume sound channels, and there will be noise after long-term use.

This time, Lebi's new customized carbon film potentiometer will greatly reduce the problem of low volume bias. Especially for the LP6Ti and 7th Anniversary Edition, which have greater thrust than the LP6 Gold Edition, the greater thrust means that the volume must be attenuated more when used with highly sensitive earplugs, which can better take advantage of the new potentiometer.

Super performance under mini size - potentiometer, also carefully selected and matched
High performance/small size is not only difficult to design HiFi players, but also for potentiometers. The performance of large desktop potentiometers is good because there is more space to accommodate related components, but they are also too large to be used in portable players.

Through special circuit design and careful matching, the left and right channel error of the customized potentiometers of the LP6 series reaches -70db at 2db. At the same time, the body is only as compact as an RK09, making it very suitable for portable players.

After actual testing, we confirmed that this custom potentiometer will be used in the LP6 series and provide the following upgrade service plan:
Users of any model of the LP6 series (LP6 titanium/LP6 gold/LP6 platinum/LP6 titanium 7th anniversary), please contact customer service (V: LPGFSH) and mail the machine to our company for customized potentiometer modification. As a bonus, the whole machine will be extended by 1 Annual warranty, the cost is 999 yuan, and the event registration period is within one month from the date of release.

Note: This customized potentiometer renewal plan is a modification service. The commercially available LP6 gold version still uses the original specially selected ALPS RK09 potentiometer.

Thanks!”

No, but LP7 said to be next year. Wein is still testing. Don't be surprised if E7 comes out next year.
Not sure where you read about LP7 coming out next year?

But yes, the E7 has gone back for some rework post feedback at the Chinese shows. There has been no firm word on when it will be ready for release. Hence, an educated guess of some time next year may not be that far off. And the later release date of the E7 will likely have a knock on effect on the LP7 release date.

As for the LP7, the fact that LP is offering this upgrade program with the one year warranty would tend to suggest that the LP7 will not be coming out any time soon. It is like when LP offered the 7AE over a couple of years back and everyone thought it was not worth getting since they thought that the LP7 release was impending. Well, LP would not have offered the 7AE if it was not to make it available as an interim product. And history has proved this point. So, it may well be the same case here: extend the product life cycle of the LP6 series.

I had these very same thoughts 💭

Do you follow their wechat group? It is based on what the designer said there. I don't screen capture out respect

The timelines have been shifting. and it is not official word.

Besides, you came back some time back with the news from the discussion there with the information that the E7 will cost about the same the Sony 1AM2... Hence, until there is official word and it is current, I would not be get too excited. :) Timelines for LP7 in particular have been slipping as we go along.

This is to capture what I just posted on the other LP thread.

Context: @audionewbi contacted CS at LP where he was purportedly told that this upgrade is only for China customers.

I have since spoken to Wan at LP. He has in turn checked with CS. There is no restriction to the Chinese market.

However, the caution is that shipping and customs clearance will be the customer’s responsibility.

Hope that clears the air for overseas customers. :)
