Hm, I can definitely listen comfortably in a quiet room at 25, though I would usually prefer it louder and more like 30-35. 40 would be quite loud, some of my DSD rips need 40, but I am starting to wonder if it's just the way they were ripped from SACD. Or, you and I have super low power units, and the rest of them are correct. Still can't decide if I want to send mine back.

With the power issue, and the noise, I think I will.
I think all p6pro should have consistent volume power. I dont think a $4000 device will just pass QC with extensive checks and doubts his unit is somehow magically have supcharge volume output. i tested a couple p6pro and they all consistent in output and most likely you will get a replacement with the same output volume. Hopefully the replacement unit take care of your noise problem. Just everyone have different sensitivity. Most people listen at 25-35. Except @ayanachibi who listens at 1-9. He must really have sensitive ears

Hmm, I didn't have noise with this one. For the record, my firmware is 1.0.0.7, 2021.08.16. What's your version and date?
I just double checked the Wetransfer, and it says November 2nd, but I installed it again and my unit still shows 8.16. Weird.

Anybody have the link to p6pro 1.0.07 firmware? I am still on 1.0.03 and musictek website still showing 1.0.03 as latest firmware. Thanks

Here is the one I'm using... actually I see a new one now with "BT ON"
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1zXJs3twF9kVlJYoXkOh826VFWx5vBJAO

Also @Tokpakorlo , I just saw a note about the 1.0.0.7 firmware note that said "fixed noise issue with DSD in low gain in v1.0.0.4". You might want to try high gain to see if there are any differences. Also, try toggling DSD to PCM - Native DSD. I'm pretty sure noise went away on one of the tracks I was having a problem with.

The new BT ON folder is empty. I will try your firmware to see if it's better.

I tried just now with High Gain and actually the DSD noise is a lot quieter, still there but noticeably lower. Interesting, seems like they are maybe aware of it and trying to fix? High gain does sound a bit different to me, a bit brighter and more bass.

Apparently I'm the outlier haha 😂 definitely take my results with a micro grain of salt.

It sounds like you might actually have an issue with your unit. Are you on version 1.0.0.7 Sept release
Edit: I just remembered you got a 1.0.0.7 Nov release firmware directly from LP?

Yup. Very sensitive ears. Which is a good thing :)

N to talk battery management for a second.
On all my devices I like to keep the charge in the 25-80% range to maximize battery life. Is there any way to measure/gauge battery levels on the P6Pro besides the stupid little battery gauge up in the right hand corner? One, it's impossible to get any accuracy and two, it's not accurate at all. When I'm charging from about 1/3 showing on the meter after about 5 minutes it shows the gauge as full....... Is there any way to manage the battery on this beauty better?
Not that I know off....as I previously shared P6 Pro being proprietary OS the software battery meter is outright useless tbh.

There really isn't a way to monitor that I know of besides taking the device apart and attaching a voltage meter externally to measure the battery output 🤔

Finally got around to doing P6 Pro testing with DSD :) I typically use flac files, but when I switched to DSDs (DSD256, DSD128, DSD64 formats), while in low gain I had to raise the volume to 35-45, depending on the recording. So, I have exactly the same observation as you do with power output. Doesn't seem like an issue. I know that some other DAPs, like LPGT, have a separate DSD play setting to adjust the gain (from -18dB to +6dB in steps of 6dB) for volume compensation.

With noise, I guess I never paid attention to that either since I don't play DSD files. I had 1.0.0.3 fw and was hearing a little higher noise floor with Traillii. Then, I followed the link you shared and installed 1.0.0.7 which seems to be quieter. In Low Gain you have to raise volume higher with DSDs, resulting in noise floor going up, thus it helps to switch to high gain with DSD so you can drop the volume by about 10 clicks and lower that background noise.

Hope it helps; all this tested with Traillii and First Time cable.

Interesting, seems like you have the identical experience that I do - power and noise - so maybe my unit is not faulty.

As an aside, what is your usual volume when listening to Flac files? Are you around 25 or do you have some super powered machine and can listen at 9?

I appreciate you testing this, and giving me such conclusive results. Thanks man! :)

I've gotten setup to stream from Roon to the P6 Pro connected to an iPhone, with Mason FS and the Eletech Aeneid cable. I did some A/B testing with the same songs streaming via Roon and on the P6 Pro internal memory. To my ears the version on the internal memory (or sd card) sounds better than the streamed version via Roon. The version I was streaming via Roon was from my local library and not coming from Tidal or another streaming service.

Is this to be expected and will music stored on the device always sound better, or are my ears fooling me?

Yes, the internal ones sounds better. @tawmizzzz verified that earlier as well.
