Are those 80 and 90 dBs numbers with one of the 2L test source mentioned earlier? I can't listen to my own library for long at 20+... it's way louder than the 2L samples we tested.

I can't deny exposure thoug having worked many years in music industry doing well over 500+ shows/year a few decades ago.
Ya that'll probably do the trick, I've always been noise sensitive and rather easily irritated by sharp sounds OR even heavy bass...the air displacement from DD drivers even by a speaker actually causes discomfort for me so I've always been protective of my hearing.

Even for IEMs with DD's that are not vented it feels like getting shockwaves right on my eardrums.

Good for you! Keep it that way for longer joy!

BTW, what sort of coupler rig do you use to test levels? I see you have customs so it must be tricky to get a good seal?

I actually just use water cooling PVC tubings with hose clamps.

I'm not testing for any formal capacity so it doesn't have to be that accurate in my case. It's just for myself to have an idea approx how loud I'm listening to.

Like to talk battery management for a second.
On all my devices I like to keep the charge in the 25-80% range to maximize battery life. Is there any way to measure/gauge battery levels on the P6Pro besides the stupid little battery gauge up in the right hand corner? One, it's impossible to get any accuracy and two, it's not accurate at all. When I'm charging from about 1/3 showing on the meter after about 5 minutes it shows the gauge as full....... Is there any way to manage the battery on this beauty better?

So here is a test :sunglasses:

Let's grab a free FLAC and DSD from here: http://www.2l.no/hires/

I chose a small file from 15th row: Vivaldi: Recitative and Aria from Cantata RV 679, "Che giova il sospirar, povero core"

24/352.8 A (61MB): http://www.lindberg.no/hires/test/2L-056_03_stereo_DXD.flac
DSD256 A (122MB): http://www.lindberg.no/hires/test/2L-056_03_stereo_DSD256.dsf

With my P6 Pro - PWA Orpheus - Traillii, my listening levels are 12 for 24/352.8 and 22 for DSD256. I would bring it down 6 clicks or more for quiet evening listen.
Ok, I did the test. My player has a lot less power for sure. Playing these two test files I needed to be at 35 for decent volume on Traillii. The Flac version was maybe 1-2 db louder, fairly subtle. My library is similar volume to these test tracks. Also, I heard a lot of the "electric waterfall" on the DSD test track, and this time when I turned DSD encoder to PCM it was totally quiet.

Thanks for this test idea, this confirms to me that my P6 Pro is definitely faulty in the power section and the DSD encoder. Needs to be replaced.

Glad we got some baseline understanding! Hopefully you can get this situation fixed soon.

I hear a noticeable volume jump from 8 to 9. Do you? 1 to 8 almost sounds like a linear step. It's hard to put percentages and linear scale to it on this device. 9-11 only has minute change, not enough to cover the FLAC - DSD difference to me. I need at least 14-16 ... without a measurement rig here...

I'm usually well below 15 in low gain so not that far off.
You guys must have bat ears. I have my volume on p6pro on 35. I tested my friend p6pro and i still have on 35. I use empire ears LX. Either that or i am losing my hearing.

I think with everyone else's results you should probably chalk me or my unit off as the anomaly...either my hearing is way too sensitive OR my unit has way too much power.

Did you also experience noise or popping issues with the demo DSD?

I didn't hear any issues on my end under Native DSD with the test track.

Yes, I had a lot of popping waterfall noise with the test track, i was very noticeable. Right from the intro with Native DSD. With PCM encoder it was perfectly silent. Hardware issue?

@mungster said he keeps his P6 Pro at 35 volume, which sounds exactly like mine. So the question is if I return mine and get a replacement will it really be any different? I have to ship mine back to MusicTeck and it's quite expensive because I'm in the EU. I don't want to get back a new unit that has the same problem.

You're listening around 35 volume normally? So maybe my unit isn't faulty, if you're having the same. Is the quality control off, or are their units really so varied? That's a huge difference compared to @ayanachibi .

Hmm, I didn't have noise with this one. For the record, my firmware is 1.0.0.7, 2021.08.16. What's your version and date?

I can listen anywhere from 20-35. If i am relaxing on a couch i listen on 15-25. If i want to dance in my pajamas to a rock track i can go up to 35. I even had it on 40 at one time because i want the rumble of the bass reverberate through my body. The volume is very inconsistent like some people say. From 1-8 have veey little change and 8-11 have big jump in volume. And 11-19 have very little change and 20-25 have a big jump. I thought the p6pro volume go up to 100. It only go up to 60, i must really losing my hearing.

I had a lot of noise, especially right at the intro before music even starts. Just checked my firmware, I have same as you. Which is weird, since Andrew gave me supposedly a new one, November version of 1.0.0.7.

Hm, I can definitely listen comfortably in a quiet room at 25, though I would usually prefer it louder and more like 30-35. 40 would be quite loud, some of my DSD rips need 40, but I am starting to wonder if it's just the way they were ripped from SACD. Or, you and I have super low power units, and the rest of them are correct. Still can't decide if I want to send mine back.

With the power issue, and the noise, I think I will.
