iFi ZEN DAC discussion + impression

I'm having a bit of trouble with my Zen Dac V2 on any firmware past 7.20. I'm having audio clicks and pops. I've had audio totally drop out once or twice and only got it back by plugging the dac out and in again. None of this happens with the 7.20 firmware. As an example I was listening to the Elden Ring soundtrack. Many of the the tracks have a second or two of silence, as soon as the silence ends and the music starts up again there is an audible pop. It sounds like the Dac is putting itself to sleep during the silence and then waking itself back up? Has anyone else seen anything like this?

Can you please try a different player/app to confirm that the issue is related to that firmware change? Thanks!

It's happening in every music player I have tried including foobar and JRiver. I'm using Stomeveil Castle from the Elden Ring soundtrack as my test track. The pops are present on v7.4 and 7.4b but not on 7.4c. None of the the 7.20 firmwares suffers from audio popping.

Hi there,

Do you not have a PSU connected to your Unit? Are you running it off USB power?

hi everyone! I have a few questions and I didn't found an answer on these yet:

Now my zen dac v2 glows with Cyan, but I am listening to Master losless format on Tidal. My audio settings on my OS seems fine (I've set it to 384k, 32 bit and tried other formats too), the dac is connected with the original ifi usb cable to my computer. Is there any other way I could improve the format it receives from my device?
Also, if I am to get as much out of the zen can+dac v2 as possible, what would you recommend? Is it worth to get an external charger for the dac v2? Is there an even better option to connect the dac to the computer than the original usb cable which comes with the zen stack?

hi everyone! (Sorry for my poor English!)
I have a quick question. Why is it that on linux the LED is yellow when playing DSD files?

- iFi Zen DAC v2 (firmware 7.4)
- Arch Linux
- DeaDBeeF player (JACK output)
- dsf audio file
- 32bit
- 705.6KHz
- 11289kbps

No matter what quality of content I play the led light is always yellow.

Thanks a lot!

Hi everyone
I justo changed my ifi hip dac by a zen dac v1. this is with factory 5.30 firmware.
Any recomendation for upgrade? is worth the last driver? my preferences are mainly Tidal(MQA) and Foobar with flac and a few dsd that I rarely listen.

Hey. Hard to tell. I use 5.3C with GTO filter and MQA support. Since it's an Ifi dac and GTO filter is Ifi's special sauce, why not.
