iFi ZEN DAC discussion + impression

Nope, you should be good, however powering your ZEN DAC from a quiet external PSU would get you better sound

I do have an extra iPower2 5v still in the box for backup, so I guess I could hook it up to see if I can detect any discernable difference.

Using iPower2 in this scenario is highly advised. The odds are that the outcome will be more than subtle

My other option is to get the iFi 4.4mm (balanced) to 3.5mm (unbalanced) adapter and use the pre-out 4.4mm on my Zen CAN (already has the iPower2). That way I could control the volume of the speakers using the CAN, and I assume pass the xBass and 3D altered sound if I want to. It's good to have options.

It's good to have options indeed

I have a "first world problem" issue with my ZEN DAC V2.
Before I had V1 witch sadly broke down and I upgraded to V2.
This changed the LED color scheme that I got used to which in IMO was better before.
Most music in TIDAL glows either yellow or green, depending if the file is MQA or not.
Two colors glow very similar and I always have to guess if it's decoding correct.
V1 color scheme was much better because colors were more different and I didn't had to think about it, just glancing at the volume button was enough.
Is it possible to get the V1 color scheme in any future firmware updates?

That's probably possible, but depends on how many users share your observations. Although I don't have a firm 'yay' or 'nay' now, I'll gladly pass on your feedback to our R&D team. Thanks!

Also just to clarify: do you mean green and yellow?

As I, said first world problems :-D
If I didn't have the V1, I would never noticed it.
V1 PCM 44kHz was green and MQA purple.
V2 PCM 44kHz is yellow and MQA green.

If you grant wishes I would like to see MQA back to purple.

Thank you and keep up the good work!

Anyone did an in depth comparison of the Zen DAC V2 to the Zen DAC Signature V2?

Thanks. I read the whole thread and I didn't see any comparison between the Zen DAC V2 and Zen DAC Signature V2. Only saw someone mentioned briefly about Zen DAC V2 against the DAC Signature V1.

Unless I missed it while reading all 23 pages .

The odds are that you didn't miss it and I saw that comparison somewhere else, sorry!

Still, you can ask there and maybe someone will help you out, thanks!

Is it normal for the ZEN DAC power supply socket (rear DC 5V) to be a bit loose/moving ? There is no contact fault!
Should I be worried or is this minimal movement completely normal ?

sorry for my bad English
