I had the pleasure of testing such Audeze LCD-XC headphones.
They sound phenomenal and you are right buying a ZEN CAN too is necessary and recommended, only the ZEN DAC and its amplification is not enough for such planar headphones.
Audeze LCD-XC are closed headphones, while listening I did not disturb the environment and my wife, but the price is yes .... maybe you know a good lawyer

They are on my list for sure.

I've only recently bought the Z7M2 and M9 headphones so will enjoy these for a while. Also, I'll be sneaking in a set of WF-1000XM4 when the come out in a couple of weeks.

Nah, been down that path with the WH-1000XM4.

I'm sitting close enough to my Zen to not need wireless.

What I do is use a Sony ZX507 with the M9, WF-1000XM3, WF-SP800N or the WH1000-XM4. The ZX507 has LDAC. Works great with the WH-1000XM4. I just want the same functionality with ear buds.

Yes. I nearly bought one thinking it could work as a transmitter, but found it to be incorrect.

but again as ....... receiver, it supports a lot of codecs, I was hoping it would also have a transmitter option for my wireless headphones, it doesn't - a pity.

My short blue USB 3.0 type A to B cable that comes with the zen dac is dead. These don't seem to be available anywhere. Are they covered by iFi warranty, if not will any Amazon sourced cable work as well? Or should spending $$$ on a fancy one provide an uplift in sound quality?

There's time and place for everything, R&D difficulty has very little to do with it

They should be just as everything else inside the box, but you might hear improvements upon going after a fancier USB cable
