iFi audio's worst kept secret: the hip-dac!
Jun 9, 2020 at 12:02 PM Post #346 of 794
I have a problem with using the Hip Dac with my samsung S9 (android version 10).
It looks like it doesnt detect the hip dac at all.
If I play music it just plays it over its speakers and not the dac.
Anyone knows how to fix this?
I have the Hardware Acceleration in Developer options turned on already.

I found that it is the the cable that is not working.
If I use the Blue usb-A cable with an usb-A to usb-C adapter to connect the hip dac with my phone it does work.
But when I use the included black usb-c to OTG cable it doesn't work.
Anyone else having problems with this cable? Or do I just have a faulty one?

In theory there shouldn't be a drain if you switch your hip dac off at the volume control. However, I always unplug headphones on any of my battery-operated audio devices. Also bear in mind that the battery LED colour status is not great! It has huge gaps.

I've noticed crackling sounds in my IEMs when connecting and disconnecting them from the hip-dac even when it's switched off.
I don't know if that means that the device delivers voltage to them even when it's switched off.

Hi,

Im considering buying the IFI Hip Dac and was wondering if and how i can connect the FIIO BTR3 (Bluetooth dac) with the IFI Dac? Will the USB A to USB C cable, connected to BTR3's USB C port, as a source work? The IFI doesn't have a 3.5mm line so not sure how to connect the bluetooth receiver to the dac! Idea is to use the BTR3 as a input source (via bluetooth) for the IFI DAC.

Any answers much appreciated!

Sidenote- My Huawei p30 pro works really well with the BTR3 transmitting aptx/LDAC over bluetooth. Using the Audio Technica M50X or FH7's is never a problem. However, i recently got the Tin Hifi P1's and BTR3 doesn't really put out the best possible output. I travel quite a bit and was considering buying either the IFI Hip Dac or the NX4 DSD to power the P1's and maybe Hifiman Sundara's (sitting in the cart).

It shouldn't, but please let us know about it here: https://support.ifi-audio.com/

Perhaps your unit developed a fault.

The cable to connect BTR3 as a wireless receiver for hip-dac is OK, but I'd have to double-check internally whether this would work. Unless someone in here already used a wireless receiver with hip-dac and can confirm this does the job?

The USB C on Fiio Btr3 works like a charging port and an input (from PC/Laptop) when being used as dac. I doubt it will work with IFI Dac. Had there been a line in, a 3.5mm jumper between Btr3 and dac would have done the trick. But since the IFI Hip Dac doesn't have analog input, only way to connect would be directly through the Phone using USB C to USB A.

However if anyone has a fix, happy to take suggestions.

Thank u all!

Hi, i think that I'm having the same drain issues on my hip-dac. I charged it yesterday, didn't use it, today when i click it on the green led lights up. connected it to the charger and again the green led... it looks like its draining even when its not connected? i unplugged everything over night (all cables). the 6 hours is something i can live with but the drain not ofcourse.

No.

The FiiO BTR3 does not have USB Output.

Shanling M0 can input Blutooth while outputting on USB.

I think FiiO M5 might be able to do this too but check the thread, don't take my word for it..

Aha, I initially thought this USB port serves as USB out. If it's there only for charging, then true, this won't work with hip-dac.

hip-dac shouldn't drain its battery if its turned off. To update, early there was a small batch of hip-dacs with this issue. So my advice is to open up a ticket here: https://support.ifi-audio.com

...and we'll swap your hip-dac :)
