iFi audio's worst kept secret: the hip-dac!

I meant for portable use. You have the xDSD but I don't like the design (sorry taste), whereas the Hip dac is just georgous. It just lacks Bluetooth capabilites...
The Zen Blue is portable. I’ve seen it in person at stores

Love the Hip DAC, but it really needs a longer battery. 5 to 6 hours average is far off the advertised 12 hour battery life. Sometimes I get 7 with my iPhone 11 Pro.

Average battery on my new iFi Hip ~5 hours (far from the promised 12 hours) - Driving the beyerdynamics T5P (32 ohm), playing hirez Tidal via Audirvana (PC).
Please advice.
Thanks

That's what you get. In my tests I was getting about 6 hours and 40 minutes of playtime on a full charge.
My guess is iFi's claim of up to 12 hours is without playing music - just switch the hip-dac on and let it sit without connecting anything to it.

Noted, thanks for your feedback!

Is there a version of this DAC with no built-in battery? I always dread having to send back an item for battery replacement...

Desktop ZEN DAC would be on hip-dac's performance level. Plus, it doesn't have a battery.

Should there be any noticeable sound quality improvement when connecting 3.5mm S-balanced vs. 3.5mm SE (when using premium headphones - mine is the Beyerdynamics T5p)?
I understand that the TRRS requires a different headphones cable

Thanks

We got feedback from our customers that there is an improvement. And yes, TRRS connection requires a different cable.

Please improve the battery life through a future firmware. I would strongly recommend this product if you did such thing.
