Hi guys
Another new boy on the block. Received the Hip Dac yesterday. I have the iFi Zen Blue for my old T-AMP home HiFi system. Like it a lot. Used to have a lot of Burr-Brown chipped equipment back in the day and I liked the sound (getting old...me), so decided on the Hip Dac. The final push was to use Tidal Masters. Firstly the sound is great. Gives me a nice analogue sound that tickles my memory....but there is a problem. Try as I may, through two phones, an LGV30, a Samsung S9 plus, and also a HiBy R5 DAP, I cannot get the green light to become magenta. I have UAPP on all and have set it to bit perfect MQA, still green, no magenta. Tried using Tidal without UAPP, all at the highest settings....still no magenta, only green. On Amazon HD I expected green, but not on Tidal Masters. There must be a reason....what is it? What am I doing wrong? Any solution?
Also a little worried at how quickly the white battery light becomes green. Maybe about an hour.

I downloaded a trial version of Audirvana on my Laptop. After pottering about with the settings I got Tidal MQA Mangenta from my Windows 10 Laptop. But still I cannot get MQA magenta from my phones or the HiBy R5, with UAPP or without. I can get Tidal MQA from the native HiBy R5, but with the hip dac attached it's green and not magenta ???? Is Android Tidal unable to manage to send MQA to the hip dac?

I’m not going to lie the fact that it has the Burr Brown Dac is exciting to me. It first made me fall in love with higher end audio through the Cowon Plenue 1}s implementation. So the fact that it’s balanced in 4.4 and has a Burr Brown isn’t a bad start.

No, not a bad start at all :sunglasses:

Just got mine in, I’m not gonna lie it sounds better with my ier Z1r’s than my WM1Z does. Which is really baffling for this tiny amp/dac considering it costs about 20 times less.

Now if anyone can point me to a better usb cable than the blue stiff one provided in the box, I’d be more than elated with this purchase.

Now that's the feedback I can proudly show to our tech staff, thanks! :)

If your hip-dac shows green LED instead of magenta, this means that what it's getting isn't MQA. I'd take a closer look at your Tidal settings. Please see here:

As for white LED, this is normal as it disengages below 75%. You should be on a green LED for a while though :)

In order to get full MQA playback on cell phones, you need to buy the paid version of UAPP as well as the paid MQA add-on. I don't have a hip-dac (yet), but this is what I had to do to get the proper magenta light to illuminate on my Hilidac Audirect Atom Pro when playing Tidal Masters tracks.

Thank you friend. I bought the MQA add on, as you said, for my phones and HiBy R5, all Android, and the magenta comes on......it works. That means if I play Tidal through UAPP I can get the Magenta Masters quality light. Do you know if it's possible to get MQA Magenta playback through the Tidal app on Android without going through UAPP? On my Windows 10 laptop there is no problem getting the MQA magenta playback directly from Tidal?

May everybody be safe and well in these coming months.

For some strange reason, the mobile Tidal app is unable to provide full MQA. The only way to get full MQA on a mobile device is through the UAPP app (with the MQA add-on).

Is that just on phones or android? I have the tidal app MQA files going from my iPad through the camera usb kit adapter and they’re lightning up magenta straight from the app.

Interesting. Maybe it's an android issue.

It varies from one Android device to another, namely whether they send out digital audio data unaltered or not. MQA can't be changed in any way to remain MQA.
