iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane
Jan 16, 2023 at 4:11 PM Post #5,026 of 5,865
Hi All. I just received the Zen Stream and after some fiddling got it connected to my wifi and streaming through Roon is working. However, hirez songs are being downgraded. The last item in Signal Path shown in Roon is "SharepointSync - Airplay streamlining"

Is there a way to stream hirez to the Stream via Roon?
In Roon settings under the Audio tab, you must enable the Zen Stream as a Zone, then select it.

You have selected the Sharepoint tab for the ZS, in this screencap you can see there are two iFi Zen Streams but I only have the one that will do Hi-Rez selected (Enabled).

Hope this helps you out...

Thanks for helping me. I only have one iFi zone to choose from, it is shown in the bottom right of this screenshot. Do I need do do something on the iFi Stream to get another choice show up in Roon?

The Roon Rockchip Spdif is the one you want to enable. That is the one that will give you higher bitrates.

Cheers!!

I will probably get another Zen stream. Will the current Zen app recognize I have two Zen streamers or do I need to power down the first one to set up second one?

Thanks!
Yes, it will!

As you can see in the screenshots below there is a small icon in the bottom right that looks like speakers. This is where you would select your "Zone" from the Stream-iFi app. In the second screenshot, this panel is open for you to see...

Well, it looks like I'm not done pestering. I set up the Rockchip Spdif and enabled it in Roon. The light on the right side of the iFi shows when music is streaming, so all seems fine. I connected a Hiby RS8 and put it in DAC mode, but no sound is coming through the Hiby. Roon shows the volume control as fixed and I am able to change the volume up and down on the Hiby, but no sound.

Any thoughts?

I should have also mentioned the setup with the Hiby was working with the Sharepoint setup I previously had.

You might need to go into the Device menu in Roon to make sure you are outputting the signal from the ZS thru the appropriate output into the Hiby. Since the Roon Ready update it is done a bit differently, here is a video to give you a quick walkthrough...

what devices can be plugged into the ifi zen stream usb input? I think it is specified how much current it can supply the device plugged into it. Also, what kind of device should be used for music storage that is directly connected to the USB input of the zen stream?

The bottom USB is for USB Audio, and anything that accepts a USB audio "in" signal should be acceptable for a connection.

The Top USB is for Hard Drives, SSDs', or USB Drives only. I honestly have no idea on any power stats for it, but the general consensus here is SSDs' and thumb drive type USB work with no issue, and larger Hard drives (like Seagate, western digital) should be powered on their own to function properly.

Cheers!!
