Got the response from iFi support, downloaded and flashed the original frimware over the USB-C port without issues.
All included under 10 min probably.
Then updated it to the latest stable OTA 2.31.7.

Finally my zen is working as advertised and enjoying it with Tidal connect- but noticed a quirkily thing- once I hit connect and start playing the track no sound comes out until I hit next track and then music start playing. Not a deal breaker but something that I noticed.

Just to report that no such behaviour when using Tidal app on my iPhone.
I hit play (the triangle) in the app, choose output as Zen streamer, and the sound comes on after that.

I know that back when I was a Tidal subscriber, occasionally I would also have issues with playback starting immediately. I sort of got into the habit of connecting to the streamer and after say 10 15 seconds then starting playback.

In terms of "connect" type things about the only one that consistently works without any "goofy" issues is Spotify, Tidal unfortunately is pretty well reported to be glitchy on multiple fronts.

Why this is I do not know, but just a general observation on the topic.

I have the exact same issue. It’s a little annoying.

I am so satisfied with the sound quality of the zen stream compared to a PC-laptop that it was a positive disappointment. That's why I put my trust in a zen one signature dac, which I received today, I'll be looking forward to it.

I am getting a checksum error when trying to update, and dont see any info here for that error. anyone have any thoughts on fixes?

Usually means the update was interrupted at some point. Unfortunately only remediation I found was to factory reset and then re-upgrade as retrying without reset often continued to fail.

Yes, Do a software reset which is located right next to where you check for updates, then upgrade to current firmware, be sure to give it time to finish...
