iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

I have a few dac's that report to me the Sample rate, In particular one I trust and used here was an SMSL M500.

Do not get to hung up on the rates, as sometimes I have found there are different versions of albums and bitrates lurking inTidal. You need to search for them, as many have found. As long as your getting Green Blue or Magenta you are getting the MQA that Tidal has to offer. I only say this because years ago I was on the great MQA hunt, searching for that elusive light, lol

Just use your ears and enjoy Bro!

Cheers!!

Now that is awesome! Thank you for that!

Although I may only keto Tidal for this month, that is a great resource!

Cheers!!

Yeah, it helps find the higher quality tracks, especially when there are multiple versions... I'm surprised at how many duplicates there are with different sample rates.

I believe you need to edit those folders separately.

@Sebastien Chiu , Thanks for you response.
Yes if this was possible, it could be more kinda like a NAS device as to add/delete the local audio files with out removing the attached storage each time.

May be some one could make it possible, as this is an open source OS platform.

I reported having success with my Tidal buffering issue by doing a reset back to the original firmware. After a week or so I started experiencing the same issue where occasionally songs would skip ahead a few seconds.

I’ve now upgraded to the newest stable firmware release (2.31.7) and changed from USB output to SPDIF. I’m still feeding a Schiit Bifrost 2. I have the buffer setting in the iFi app at 50% of 32MB. So far so good tonight.

In hindsight, I should have only switched one variable at a time, but I’m just interested in getting consistent playback without any nagging issues. I’ll report back on whether things work out with this current combination.

@Sebastien Chiu

Are there any plans from ifi for a re-launch of the ZEN stream in the manner of the Air series?
Oh, and with DSD512 support...

I can't speak on any future products we have coming down the line [at all, even if they existed]!

Hello there...I did test every one of those songs...nice music btw..thanks for the songs suggestions...I had Color match with every song except Metallica track 3...wich was not blue but green..suggesting its not an m4a master. How to you know the sample rate tidal doesn't give any clue about the sample rate of the songs.
I had the ZS set to Auto for MQA, when I checked that track/album. I just checked it again, with same result Blue MQA. Just an update...
I do enjoy music regardless of the sample rate, format or the gear...sometimes I just listen with my iPhone and meze 99 Neo in the balcony drinking beer...streaming from YouTube...other times I want to hear good quality sound from my zen stack and hd650...

but...I do care about purchased products...and also the options they offer...so I do want to understand how zen stream and the zen dac handles sample rates and mqa...from tidal....I mean...part of the hobby is to feel good about what you have payed isn't it?
Oh I meant no offense by my comment, sorry if iI offended you.

And I 100% agree on products, this hobby, and getting our moneys worth! I just wish more people would point that same finger at the Almighty Tidal and any responsibility they have to us "getting what we are paying for"!

I realize this is the ZS thread, but round these parts no one questions Tidal connect as an issue, where many of us have never had issues, many have, and the finger of issue never gets pointed at Tidal Connect causing issues, because it worked on some other product, it must be fault of the ZS, which is not true at all.

We are all looking for the "Audio Nirvana" and need to examine all parts of the chain, network/Op system/ yada yada...lol

Cheers!!

I just played some Master music from Tidal and noticed that ZS shows yellow LED. I remember that it was blue with Master songs. Is this normal?

Edit: actually this is very weird: if I play the song from my iPhone, the LED is yellow. If I play the same song from my Macbook, the LED is green!!!

The iphone/ipad detects automatically the streaming sampling rate, the computer doesn't, you have to set it. I use windows but maybe it's the same with the macbook.

Sorry, correcting my previous post, I suppose that if you're using Tidal Connect with the Zen Stream, using you phone or macbook as a remote, you shouldn't need to configure the sampling rate, I guess

If possible give me the tracks that were doing this and I will test them out, and report back!

Cheers!!
