although I am toying with the idea of adding a iFi Zen Can to the Dac

Is there a way to connect Hip Dac to Ifi CAN in a lineout way?
Thanks

Hi there!
Yes you can ~ just run it like this:
Hip-DAC > hp out (max vol) > Zen CAN
Use the Hip-Dac on max volume and Zen CAN's knob to control the volume instead.
Hope this helps!
Will max volume exhibit distortion as it's not a dedicated line out voltage?

It shouldn't, should be just fine!
Well just for your info, I have tried it in the way described and it sounds awful
Distorted and low volume, so this is not the way to go.

Question:
I am thinking of pairing this DAC with a Loxjie P20 Balanced Amp.
If I connect this DAC via 4.4mm to dual XLR into the AMP, where I would plug in my HE-4XX into the amp via balanced.
I'm confused as to which mode to put the DAC on, "fixed" or "variable"?
And would I still be able to use the "Truebass" if I was on fixed mode (because from what I understand, it disables the volume on the DAC)
If the truebass is only available on the "variable" switch, would that render my Loxjie P20 Amp useless? Does it strictly only use the DAC/AMP combo on the ifi zen dac and completely ignore my external amp?

As much as users of head-fi might dislike Amir from audiosciencereviews, his tests have shown that ifi zen dac does distort quite a lot using high gainPower match = High Gain AFAIK

You would still be able to used Truebass on fixed I believe.
It wouldn't render your amp useless at all, you can use the Zen DAC stacked with any amp as long as it has supports the same connections.
Hello, I have a question about the true bass functionality when using Zen DAC as a DAC only into an external amp. If you were to use the variable output, would the true bass functionality be available to pass along to the external amp? Thank you.

This is correct! Thanks @Lalerfy.

Yes it does pass through but you will have to keep your volume at 12 - 1 o'clock in order to keep the distortion lowHello, I have a question about the true bass functionality when using Zen DAC as a DAC only into an external amp. My old Zen Dac started to distort audio and i just received my new unit.
I went to update firmware to get GTO filter and i found out that there's now new firmware versions (7.0 and 7.0c).
I had to use version 7.0c for this new unit which seems to be same as 5.3c.
What did change on hardware level between my old unit and this new one?

Important: This firmware only works with the following products:
- iDSD Signature with Serial Number starting from 2014001021
- ZEN DAC with Serial Number from starting 5304000001
- hip-dac with Serial Number from starting 5404000001

Hi! Nothing changed on a hardware level, just a new batch of units with different serials. The matching .x numbers have the exact functionality on a firmware basis as well.
