iFi audio ZEN Blue - The Official Thread

I never had any problem with the antennae range. What would be nice would be a way to dim those lights! I literally have to keep mine on the floor under my sofa side table out of sight because they're so annoying. That makes it frustrating to connect new devices. I like ifi but they need to create better user experiences on their refreshes instead of barely audible improvements to SQ. Or... try both!
The most recent software update also gives the option of turning off the lights altogether.

Also, on the subject of updates I noticed that the latest update v2.12 is out and the update notes show the removal of 'sleep mode'. Does 'sleep mode' refer to the feature that the unit no longer blinks it's lights all night, when not in use? As I found this option very useful.

I too am intrigued by this latest V2.12 update for the Zen Blue.

1. What does 'Sleep mode - removed' actually mean? And why would you want to remove it?

2. LED indication - what do you double-click to turn on/off the lights?

Anyway, I tried the upgrade to both of my iFi Zen Blue units, and both failed with the same problem:

Has anyone managed to perform a successful upgrade? Did anyone's fail like mind did?

The LED indication option was also included in the last update and is activated by double clicking the pairing button.
I haven't updated yet, as I too don't want to lose the sleep mode option.

Just reporting back: after the firmware update to both of my Zen Blues failed, the devices are still at their old firmware level and still functioning correctly. Thankfully, they haven't been bricked! Hopefully someone from iFi can advise on what may have gone wrong.

Here's a direct link to the post above with the error messages:

This Aerial improves the Zen Blue version 1......a lot. Available from Amazon UK. My Zen Blue now does not lose it's signal and plays BT 990 kbps perfectly without cut outs and dropped signals.

Just to add that over the weekend I managed to find an alternative antenna which appears nigh on identical to the Zen V2 one. It's available on the following link from Amazon for £2.69, which is worth a punt if you're curious.

I've been streaming Tidal HiRes streams over LDAC from other rooms in my house without drop outs all morning, which was something I was unable to do with the previous antenna.
The antenna adds a bit of height but I believe the gains are worth it.

I would be curious to hear from LDAC users on how it performs. Range on that was quite poor when I tested the previous model.
I received my v2 today and LDAC cover is not great at all, even with the improved antenna (it actually came with 2 antennas, the old model and the new one which is a nice touch). If you move over a metre and a half away it drops big way on the 990kbps LDAC. In real use, only 660 kbps is practical unless you leave your DAP/Phone under 1 meter away from the Zen Blue in which case you are fine.

I have this on the original Zen Blue. It works well at about six quid.

Cheers mate, for that price, I will give it a go. To be honest I think the issue is not with the ZEN v2 but with the little power that my Cayin N3Pro DAP probably has transmitting. With my phone I can move further away and keeps the connection better. The sound is pretty good. I am listening through a Lehman Black Cube Linear using the Denon D7000 and it is hard to believe the music is not coming from a CD (all my music is lossless).
I had no issues updating the software, by the way. I am well pleased with the purchase
