Are there any apps for iPhone or iPad? I plan to use PRO iDSD with my home audio and use iPhone or iPad as a remote control.

I've never used one so can't say, but maybe someone else will chime in with something worth trying out.

Did someone had the opportunity to compare the Gold Note DS10 to the Pro iDSD?

I lately have a problem with my ifi Pro iDSD in combination with the iCan Pro. I get a nasty distortion sound (when playing and when not playing music) which drives me crazy. The iDSD is connected via USB to my PC and persists even when I unplug the USB cable, and the removable antenna of the iDSD. Any ideas what to do? Thanks

If it's a fluctuating white noise that:
  • happens seemingly at random, more frequently when the room temperature is high,
  • increases with time,
  • persists when you stop the music,
  • persists when you change the preamp input or press mute (the sounds seems to be broadcasted by the iDSD's nuisible wifi system),
  • stops when you turn the iDSD off, restarts if you quickly turn it on, but doesn't if you turn it off for a long time,
we have the same problem.

I signaled it to Ifi's ticket service about one month ago, and we are discussing it at a leisurely pace, since then, without any clue nor direction. (Connor's competency and client oriented mind is sorely missed here. Thank you Connor and good luck.)

Is it possible to post sound samples somewhere and link them from here?

Can you please send me your ticket number? I'll take a look as well.

I've plugged headphones for the first time - an old Sony CD3000 that was rotting in its box. I heard an awful lot of background noise: the infamous klok-klok-klok-klok-... which is the base noise that the DAC sends to the loudspeakers, but much more audible in the headphones. Is it "normal"?

Does it sound like a relay click?

No, it's a darker sound.

Hi everyone!

Just picked up the iFi pro iDSD and running into a few issues and wondering if anyone has experienced the same. I tried to read through 114 pages of this thread but haven't seen an answer yet. I am running the latest firmware (2.08). I am using mConnect (latest version) on my Android phone and using wifi to play Tidal MQA tracks to my Yamaha A-S1200 via RCA out.

1) There are 3 seconds of skipping at the start of every MQA track. When I select a song on mConnect, initially, there are a few skips as the pro IDSD sees a DSD file. It takes a few seconds to see the file as an MQA file and then properly decodes it. The rest of the playback of the track is flawless. This happens every time I start a new track but frustratingly, it occurs between tracks when I am playing an entire album. The "gapless" option on mConnect has been turned off. I could live with it if it was just when selecting new tracks but it really disrupts the continuous playback of an album!

Not sure if this adds any information: but when I use my Bluesound Node 2i SPDIF Out into the pro iDSD, this problem does not occur. The pro iDSD seems to see a continuous stream of MQA so doesn't flip back and forth between DSD and MQA. This problem also doesn't occur when playing straight PCM files as the pro iDSD is not switching back and forth.

2) Background hum/hiss. When I crank my Yamaha to 12 o'clock, there is a background hum or hiss. It is worse when the wifi antenna is inserted (where there is a repetitive clicking noise). When I remove the antenna, the hum is still there but no more clicking. I've checked my interconnects, the power supply, the plug, the other amp inputs and all seem to be fine with my other sources. It doesn't seem to matter if the ifi pro iDSD is set to "app" or "spdif" or "usb". It occurs when the DSD upsampling is on or off. It also occurs in solid state, tube or tube+ modes. Is this a known issue? I've read a bit on the thread about wifi shielding issues?

Thanks everyone!

Russ

Not sure about the background noise you are hearing, but open those old CD3000s up and remove the rotting foam liner between the transducers and the outside world, replace the earpads and let those puppies sing again! Also, you will probably need to redo the head band as well like I did. With some music, I still prefer my raised-from-the-dead CD3000s to my LCD-4s or LCD-XC planars.
