Is Pro iDSD and Pro iCAN the best amp/DAC stack out there? I have no idea, but Joshua Valour addressed this question in truly great fashion. Please see this vid!

To each their own. I bet this combo sounds good, but it definitely depends on what someone’s budget is. Lol... searching for the best will start costing used M4 beemer prices.

I can (No pun intended) certainly agree with Josh's commentary regarding the differences in headphone affectation regarding soundstage and instrument placement within it.

Left to right: Sendy- In your face presentation (Small soundstage, mid-forward) | Beyer T1ver2- Detail/analysis (Fairly wide soundstage and attention to instrument placement) | HD650- Relaxation (Small-ish soundstage, vibrancy to strings and choral arrangements) | Sundara- Daily driver (Medium soundstage with fast action and good instrument placement rivaling T1 though not as detailed)

For each of my main headphones per purpose the Pro iDSD and to a greater extent, iCAN has drastically different impacts when the "Tube" or "Tube+" features are added to a particular piece of music. Would I use the tube features on a "38 Special" song listening to my HD650? No. But it can be a nice enhancement while relaxing with pieces by Handel, Tchaikovsky, or Wagner.

So while I might not unilaterally agree with everything said in the review, I definitely see his point, and respect his opinion.

Of course I agree with you. Audio setups can cost as much as good cars easily!

Although impressed, Josh was vocal about it in a very calm and reasonable way. There's no such thing as the best DAC/amp combo, but nice feedback indicates that our engineers did something good, which is what drives and motivates our team.

Happy to share that I finally got the companion to my Pro iCan... the Pro idsd. Now the question is... what is the best connection between the two? I couldn’t find any information on this.

Both are fully balanced so I'd bypass Pro iDSD's volume control ((HiFi fixed setting on its rear) and go from its outputs to Pro iCAN's inputs via XLRs.

Pro iDSD will work only as a DAC and Pro iCAN as an amp.

I wanted to post here because I've ordered a Pro IDSD from my local dealer and I've been doing some reading to be ready for it when arrives, but I still have a ton of questions i want answered, and I see the company account is very active here:

1) Do new units shipped to partner dealers automatically have the latest firmware on board?
2) How does one connect to Wi-Fi without using WPS? Would i connect with a LAN cable, navigate to the IP on a computer and then do setup from there?
3) With regards to streaming, I see mconnect is the latest suggestion for Tidal MQA and i assume the Pro shows up as a DLNA device as an option?
4) How does Spotify work? I've seen a lot of conflicting information. Does the DAC have Spotify Connect built in so that it will just show up in Spotify as a device option? Do I need to use mconnect or Muzo to talk to the Spotify app instead? How?

Thanks for answering these questions, if anyone has answers!

1. Every unit goes out with the latest firmware version for its time, if a unit was produced before the latest firmware update, we can't unbox and rebox it just to update the firmware. In the firmware update app you can see the current firmware version so if checks out to be the latest you don't need to upgrade again.
2. You can connect directly to the WiFi of the Pro iDSD itself (whose name starts with iFi) and use the address of 10.10.10.254 to set it up to connect with your network. Of course, WPS is easier if available.
3. Yes, it is a DLNA renderer.
4. Yes, it's a Spotify "Speaker".

Cheers,
Joe

Dear iFi, a quick question. I have made enquiries with various dealers. Everywhere sold out and some say that you can't order more. Will the production be stopped or will there be a new model? Would very much hope there is a replacement, would be a loss if the Pro product line is discontinued.

They might be sold out where you live, but if you need one, please shoot me a PM and I'll do my best to help you.

Although I have no news to share about what we've been working on, I wouldn't worry about our Pro range :)
