iFi audio NEO Stream - Sweet Streams!

are we ever going to get a firmware update? still waiting for that update for tidal so that we get flac...since the mqa passthrough problem was never resolved.

it feels like there's a lot of support at the beginning of the product for the first half of the year...and then no updates
I completely agree, and have just asked about it and was told it is coming, but I have no timeframe.

The strange thing is if Tidal is indeed no longer sending an MQA tagged file the unit should just play it back as FLAC at whatever rate, just as Qobuz does and as files they had that weren't MQA.

I do not have Tidal anymore to test this, but I will ask again for you!

Apologies,

Cheers!!

Thanks for this, I was under the impression that they were just removing the MQA and replacing it with the normal Hi Rez FLAC file, which to me would have made complete sense, I am going to dig into this further tomorrow when the folks are around the overseas office.

Cheers!!

See,

I have read several articles that say this, I am still confused on why anyone would need an update to play FLAC, but again I will ask tomorrow.

it has to do with api update. Lumin updated their firmware so that it stops picking the MQA version of the song on tidal last month. I'm guessing all manufacturers need to update to pick the correct version of the song

Thanks!

Not trying to be argumentative I am just at a loss to understand how if the version presented by Tidal is indeed FLAC with no MQA Flag why the NEO or ZEN wouldn't play it as such.

I think there's more to this than meets the eye! Just my personal opinion, but this seems odd indeed, and when I have more time tomorrow I am going to start going thru Roon (which will show what's there) and is not there.

I hope you understand what I am saying but if it was actually FLAC it would play as such, Ill post anything I get for sure. And I do understand what you are saying.

Cheers!!

After doing quite a bit about this topic it seems as a few manufacturers have got access to this update, but from what I am also seeing, it has not been a general release by Tidal (yet) concerning the Tidal Max updated API.

You are correct that Lumin, and some others have, and Audirvana just released a fix also, but Roon has not so this has not been an all-around update that anyone can use, as of yet.

I have asked our folks for a timeframe but as of yet, I have no info. So it appears as if this is a bit on Tidal's end as well, and just as soon as we can make this change I am sure we will.

Thanks for your patience on this.

Cheers!!

You were also correct with the post you had up, The Tidal app was the first (and the only way for a while) to have access to Max, I tested this last night going direct to a few DACS with USB after signing back up for Tidal and indeed got the Max FLAC designation, so indeed this works, but I have read that using Tidal Connect does not work this way as of yet.

Cheers!!

looks like tidal connect updated yesterday. my aurender now plays tidal max and i can see the Flac "max" version of albums and also the MQA versions.

On ifi, i can see this on my player. it still only plays MQA (likely needs the firmware update now)

I saw that on another thread, I do not know exactly how this process is working in terms of (what we create or are given access too) but I am actively looking for answers.

Now that I signed back up I am interested in sound comparison, Roon has not done this yet either so I am tempted to give Audirvana a try as well as they have.

Cheers!!

A question to Roon and NEO users...

The other day Roon had and update that I am hearing solved dropout issues on the Zen, has anyone noticed dropouts being gone or less with this new Roon update on the NEO?

I have not had a proper chance to check this yet so I figured I would enquire to Roon users here.

Thanks!

Cheers!!

Almost no changes, on how often it occurs, a bit less disturbing it is now, not that loud.

Thanks for the report, I did get a chance yesterday but to be truthful I was listening through my monitors, and although I did not hear any I certainly may have missed it.

Cheers!!
