I'm assuming this is a fully passive as there is no power input and the leds look like they repeat what is coming from the port. I would expect that this will at best transport the signal at the same quality as it receives so the question is how much isolation it can provide. Is there any low/high pass filtering inside or is it mainly a transformer based device? Are there any specs on the isolation capacity?

While I'm sure all of this is in good fun, let's try and stay on the topic if we can

Thanks!

Cheers!!

Haha sorry, just went along with the humour 😂
Big fan of IFI DACs here ! Good luck with this new product, not a use case for me.
All good, I have had a snicker myself,

Cheers!!

The Ethernet filtering/isolation products are actually not new in the higher end audiophile world today, and there are many much more expensive products such as Innuos Phoenix Net and JCat M12 (both of which I have used and liked), and I can definitely see where this small ifi thing will fit into my setup (directly into the router, before all the switches, etc.). Hopefully the two I have ordered will not leave me disappointed, and if it really does bring any reduction in noise (not directly audible noise, or course), then I’d call this product a success.

@Mr BubbaHyde what's the difference between this device and something like a Baaske MI-1005? Why would someone choose this device instead of just getting a switch? Ifi needs to define the use case for this product better, and give their potential customer base some expectation or use-case parameters. Right now the the page for this just screams "Hey, buy our crap because we're ifi and we put something new out. Don't care what port you shove it into once you get it." It says so little that it borders on insulting. You can ride the line and market to both the subjective and objective crowds, but as-is everything's so intentionally vague that it's not saying anything.

edit: this coming from someone who does use and appreciate network tweaks.

Uuh, … guys? Need your help.
Where have you read that ‘LAN itself… by specs… is transformer coupled?‘
It‘s been a while since I read the IEEE 802.3* . Last time when the IEC 60950 changed into IEC 62368.
And maybe I‘ve missed something…
But I really can’t remember something about fully transformer, galvanic, optical or whatever
(de-)coupled.
There are additional network adapters and of course router, switches, repeater even network cards implementing these IEC standards.
But that’s mostly about surge protection and the newer one about grounding or at least significantly more detailed.
Maybe you missread the IEC 60601? Which discribes additional network isolators among other things.
It also would baffle active LAN and PoE.
Or you have gear which additionally features galvanic coupling?
A premium router?
Our PC/Laptop mainboard LAN doesn‘t have.
And no streamer I have opened to date.

Don’t want to talk about this thing is snake oil or opens audiophile heaven.
That everyone’s own decision/experience or maybe …fun?!

But … it’s a good idea to mention:
‚please avoid mechanical stress on your device‘ or something like this.
At least for ifi‘s insurance.

If you are a vintage hifi fan, the latest state of the art stuff purchaser, a frantic digital believer, an enthusiastic snail oil tester, a Stax, ZMF, Beats or Grado fan,
or beware …just a music listener:
Enjoy your music!

Hey rocks do actually work. :o2smile: Go grab a block of quartz and put it on your system, you will probably hear a difference.
It did work . . . when I dropped it on my foot, turned out I have a very nice soprano, so some sonic improvement.

All wires we use to transfer signals are susceptible to interference from EM and RF bands. While that noise won’t stop the data transmission, it will enter a component and then ride on the signal into every other component. These devices aren’t about the “ones and zeros”, but it’s important to remember that the digital data is transferred via analogue means.
Try the product and see if it’s for you. I can imagine it helping in noisy environments.
