Contacted Etymotic and the ER4 line is definitely not discontinued, just out of stock until later this month (hopefully).

I can confirm that the ER4 line is definitely not discontinued.

Yes actually. I find them very portable with the OTG cable. Impact on battery is fine too.

The iFi Nano sounds more reference and detailed. Takes what you have and brings out more clarity. The DFR brings out more detail but boosts the bass and treble more than the mids. It definitely “colours” the sound. I suggest testing both before buying.

cool. id be interested to hear what you think about how they compare.

to be honest i like them both with a slight preference to the ER4XR. the ER4XR has a slightly warmer tone because of the bass, and the ER4PT has more forward mids.
I don't like the ER4PT with the PtoS adapter though.. it makes the treble splashy and upper mids unfocused.

interestingly i like the ER4XR with the PtoS adapter for some songs. it makes the overall sound more relaxed and lift the treble a bit. but i like the ER4XR with a 100ohm impedance adapter than the PtoS adapter even more

ER4s are probably the best IEMs to listen to in the morning.

Wakes you right up.

I love the Dragonfly Red with my ER4SRs.(using OnePlus5 phone and USB Audio Player Plus for bitperfect flac>Dragonfly).
BTW, if you go this route, this $4 little hard case from Amazon fits the Dragonfly attached to the OTG cable on the 'netting' side, and the Ety's on the other. Great protection, small package.

The Dragonfly Red also works very well the ER4XR's too! It's a very nice piece of portable gear.

Are those Shure olive tips I see?

Yes, I switched to medium olives after getting tired of fragility of the *slightly* more comfortable Comply's. Comply needs to use a slightly tougher skin over their foam! Anyway, I only noticed the Olive's being a little firmer at first. Got used to them pretty quickly.

They’re pretty awesome. Durable, comfortable and SQ is good too.

thanks for this. very interesting answer for me because i have both the 4pt and the 4xr, and came to similar conclusions. mids more forward on pt, xr is warmer.
interesting that you say the xr overall sound is more relaxed with the adapter. to me, while tracks that are already relaxed like many acoustic tracks sound excellent on the xr, to me certain electronic tracks with a lot of treble and less bass, i prefer on the pt. i feel that the treble can get overemphasized on the xr. forward bass, treble, less mids.
