If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

Maybe you two are really cranking it then? They have measured to show a good deal of THD in the crossover region at loud volumes ( sort of where the advantage of the multiple drivers per range helps) but wonder if the new transmission line style of crossover is the culprit

I'll have a test but if that is the issue I know the XR would be a good one to try.

I definitely have not pushed them past 90 db when I had them, but I agree it could be a problem with the crossover, because there was no problems with my X10s. I may get another pair to see if it's a manufacturing issue.

I'm a bit late with this response, but I moved up from a Klipsch X10 to the Etymotic ER4S (so not the SR/XR, but an older ER4). If you thought the X10 didn't have enough treble (which I also thought as well) then the ER4 series may very well be right up your alley. The X10 really does sound somewhat muffled compared to the ER4S. And I'd assume the ER4SR and ER4XR would be at least just as better than the X10, if not better.

I personally like my ER4S much better than my X10 - hence why I sold the latter after buying the former.

Thanks for the comparison! You're right, they may just be the perfect balance for my tastes.

I'd go all in with the XR if you. I loved my ER4s but would expect you'd think the bass anemic coming from the x10 and more difficult to drive.

@achelgeson I'd have to agree with this. If you like the amount of bass in the X10 but just wanted more treble than the XR seems to be better. The ER4S at least really is a bit lacking in the bass department compared to the X10.

I love my Ety HF3, and the XR sounds like it could be right up my alley. It ought to be a direct upgrade, keeping the same level of isolation and add a little bit of low end. Sounds pretty awesome IMO :)

Will wait for some more impressions and reviews, though. If anyone has heard both the HF3 and the XR and could do a comparison, I would be very interested in reading it!

Any love for the glider tips?

I used glider tips for a while, I wore them quite loosely, still deep inside my canal but not exactly compressed.

Made my ER4S sound a little bit like a Grado headphone, was quite pleasant late at night with lower volumes.

Remember though I used them a little differently. Try some if you can get them easily.

To hear pros and cons? What's the purpose of any post?

More understandable would be "Has anyone tried the Glider Tips on the ER4SR or ER4XR.  If so, what are your impressions".   In addition to the rephrasing being more clear, it is also proper English.
