If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...

Hey yall, I've been lurking here for 3 years now and finally made an account. I would particularly like to thank @Blackwoof for all of his posts because they have been extremely informative.

I would like some of your guys' help: Is there ANY IEM upgrade to the ER4XRs/ER4SRs in terms of detail, resolution/imaging, and transient speed, which is below the $500 price range?

I mainly listen to trance and happy hardcore (probably 450+ bpm). My source is the Qudelix 5k, with a balanced cable. The only other thing that I can compare the ER4XRs to are the Moondrop Chaconnes ($300). Compared to the ER4XRs, the Chaconnes have awful transient speed and half the detail.

Some random background: I have the ER4XRs and the ER2XRS, but I loaned them to my brother. He managed to break both of them somehow. Now he has the Chaconnes and I pray he doesn't break them too. He's like some sort of IEM breaking monster.

You could try a well-regarded planar-magnetic set like the OG 7Hz Timeless or the newer 2024 Letshuoer S12.

Funny I see this when I was reading /r/headphones threads of 4 posters lying about the ER4XR/ER4SR treble despite being shown them reaching 10Hz ~ 18.5KHz and that It can't do bass because they say so. Highly doubt you'll find much If were using a ER4XR with EQ + Foam tips as a basis.

Please don’t. The ChiFi faux planars are awful. For the same price you can get something like the iSine 10 and EQ it with Q5K. They go as low as 100 bucks in the used market.

If transient speed is important to you, nope. You need to go four digits to get a proper upgrade.

Thank you very much for your reply. I think I will just buy the ER4SRs then.

😲😲 😲 What???

Anyone knows where can I find these clear soft tri flanges that came with the er2se? Not the frosted ones...

Just got the double flanged ones but I think there is a spike near 8k that makes them painful in many tracks. Triple ones have a much more natural sound that I can listen to for hours.

I went through this same pain a year ago. I ended up using a 3rd party re-shipping company, which still ended up costing quite a bit. I wish Etymotic would find a less overpriced way of shipping internationally. They also sent me the wrong tips and I had to order a 2nd time! Thankfully I ordered enough to last me hopefully the lifespan of my ER4XR

I just found out there are a bunch of options in AliX and very cheap. Ordered a pack and will probably try a lot more. Clear, black, grey, different sizes, not bad.... Thank god for China, :P. Maybe that's why Etymotic don't give a crap?

Anyone has any experience with AliExpress eartips?

It's been years, so maybe I'm wrong, but at the time there was like 50$ of nothing that were credited back to my account. And it was specified somewhere that it would be so.
Look it up or contact them, it's very unlikely for the actual final price to be that much.

I sent them a mail and I hope for a good answer. In the mean time I am waiting for the AliX ones to try.

There should be dealers in the EU for accessories. Shipping from them should be FAR less.

Hi Dave, have you gotten any impression that they just don't care about the international market since the US one is big enough for such a small company? It would make sense...

Oh, I think they do very much care about the International market. It's been a significant factor for Etymotic in the past and it really should be in the future as well. Remember that Etymotic isn't really a small company anymore. They are now a small part of a larger company.

I do know that the distributors have changed a couple of times in the EU. And it can occasionally be challenging to get them to carry all of the little supporting pieces like eartips and dampers. They're not a massive revenue generator and everybody these days seems to want to just move boxes. When I was there, we were pushing distributors to carry more accessories as supporting the product in-market is necessary to keep healthy sales. It was definitely improving, but I'm out of the loop on where it currently stands.

I hope that you are able to find them locally. I know that I wouldn't want to pay that kind of shipping cost. If you can't find them locally, hopefully you hear back about a cheaper shipping option to you from the US.
