Damn, i really had high hopes, until i read these impresiions: "IMO the signature isn’t completely neutral, I would even say it was a little V-shaped and fun-sounding."
I was hoping for a neutral sound...

The OP that made that comment has started that the  JH Audio Roxanne had too much bass dialed into and he did not bring a screwdriver to adjust it. The HD650 was clear. The HD650 does has a bit more mid bass than the HD600 which could account for a bass richer experience  by some. Not the best choice for the most neutral headphones. I would not put much stock in just one OP first impressions. For me neutral sound also depends on the environment that the recording takes place as well.

Let's say, the battery dies in 4 years, and i don't replace it, is it possible to contiue using it?

Hi,

In 4 years' time, we recommend that you get it serviced by getting an authorised iFi service centre to have the battery replaced.

But of course, if you so wish, you can continue to keep using it in USB power-mode.

OK
I just hope the sound of the final version will be as neutral as possible, and i'm sure everyone will agree with me.

Thanks - while you are waiting for the micro iDSD, please try the rest of the nano and micro range. There is character that is the AMR/iFi sound to ALL our equipment.

In particular, if you read the nano iDSD reviews to-date, it should give a pretty good idea of what the micro iDSD is going to be like.

We know it is tough going but read all the notes we have published to-date. eg We dont just choose a chipset of the day and run with it. We do somewhat more exhaustive work behind the scenes.

Then you will have a better sense of what we are about and consequently, what sonics to expect. It kind of all dovetail quite neatly.

So folks, I have been doing my best to read up as many threads on the Micro iDSD but just need to confirm if my understanding is right

I am now currently running Foobar/Mediamonkey on ASUS Xonar Essence STX (PCIe) connected to Akimate Mini (Powered Speakers) and getting itchy for an upgrade.

Would like to have a DAC with integrated headphone amps so I can connect up the DAC to my active speakers and also use it as headphone amps when I can't use my speakers (late at night or when someone is sleeping).

I was initially thinking of getting the iFi iDAC but someone recommended the iFi iDSD Micro .. which explains why I am here ..

so here's the question, hopefully it's not a silly question, if my music collection are mostly MP3s and FLACs and i don't have any DSDs music .. would I still benefit from purchasing the iDSD Micro or should I just stick to iFi iDAC ?

I disagree…

neutral cans with neutral amplification and a neutral source is a no no for me. I'm after the musical and analog sound of vinyl but in digital.

The micro iDSD should have way better PCM performance as well as compared to the iDAC. iFi prices their products in terms of the league they compete in so the iDAC would be a good value and may better some expensive things but the micro iDSD should render having an iDAC obsolete… unless you prefer the iDAC's overall sound signature more but I doubt it. I'm looking forward to the iDSD micro and I have no intention of getting and DSD files unless just to try what the fuss is about.

You can always use an EQ to color the sound... the source/ amp should always be as neutral as possible, because as an audiophile, i want the "truth". not some pleasant sound that is fake.

Many thanks!

The short impressions on TechnoHeadphone of the Micro iDSD is just a prototype version. Also credit to, pekingduck for the impression :)

I am hoping the amp itself is neutral and we use the XBass for the extra musical

True that an audiophile is after the most natural and realistic reproduction. However, the fact that neutral equipment will merely emphasize the nature of the recording which is unlikely to be realistic in itself, wouldn't neutral be contradictory to an audiophile's aim?

I'm not criticizing your choices or anyone who appreciates neutrality in any way but audiophiles search EITHER for neutrality, a realistic sound, or an enjoyable sound. I'm for the second and I believe that iFi's sound signature is more for making digital sound natural and analog without losing any detail or over emphasizing any frequency and not breaking down, showing artifacts, and ruining bad recordings which I find neutral equipment to do.

Oh… and I'm EQist… like racist but against the application of EQ or any digital adjustments.

Many thanks!

I'm hoping for a musical DAC but a neutral amp for flexibility with future DACs but still a musical and natural sound when used together
