Just to give you guys that haven't tried the iFi Micro iDSD Black Label yet an idea of the Black Labels's sound quality, the LG G6 Quad DAC sounds terrible in comparison. It improves a lot with the Black Label used just as an amp, but it's still inferior to the Black Label as a DAC + amp. Not quite sure if the LG G6 could improve with a 200€ amp, the FiiO A5 for example, does not help. When I tried the LG G6 for the first time it looked great, sounded terrific for a smartphone, but after 24+ hours using the Black Label, you see how wrong you were, or how high-end this equipment is. This is interesting because we are talking about a QUAD DAC config (the so talked ESS 9018), but if the a mplification section is weak, the system won't produce high-end sound. Integration. Anyways, the Burr Brown DACs were a great choice, I loved the Cowon Plenue 1 with one of these chips. I think they are the best in terms of timbre and separation. Even more interesting is that when you put it in comparison with something so expensive and complex like the Chord Hugo 2, you won't notice that the Hugo 2 sound any better. As I mentioned before, I even think that the Black Label is the clearer DAC, showing how the perfect integration of *eventually* less expensive, but still very high quality components, can result in a similar or maybe even better sound quality/experience. A perfect combination of hardware and sound technologies.
To finish my observations, the Black Label is also more portable than the Hugo 2, which for me is the most important as I listen to music mostly outdoors. It looks great, build quality seems good, comes with a carry pouch, which the Hugo 2 doesn't, it's easy to use, the blue cable is easily transportable to use with my smartphone, the filters are really useful, the device seems perfect so far and the SQ is trully addicting. And the best of all, of course, is the price. I'm very very happy with my choice, after spending until 2000€ in portable DACs.
