Hi,

Portable = headphones.

So IF we can, it would be 3D Holographic for Headphones.

Ehhhh why not just make the feature ON permanently so that we don't have to switch it on and offal the same time, safe space for other features. Or maybe a software in Windows/Mac OS / Linux just to adjust those features. Don't have to bulky like iTunes, I am sure iFi can do that! Make it available for iOS and Andriod as well if at all it exist xD

Another note is, at times, our PC is overloaded with our work so we usually have a SD card containing our library which we uses it on DAP such as the X3/DX50/X5 and I can see a growing sells on those DAPs. It would be wise to add a SPDIF so that we can bypass those DAP's DAC. Making higher end bed time listening possible IMO xD

So you use headphones or speakers or both?

Headphones! Speakers for living room but they are connected to other rig so yeahhh xD

Hi ifi :)

Some suggestion for the unit -

Replaceable battery.
Water & Dust resistant - port covers for portable use.
Gain switch for h/p jack.
Output impedance switch for h/p jack,
RCA + Mini balanced line out (with adapter for normal XLR connection)
Option to use volume control as a basic pre for RCA + Balanced output.
Small, sleek design that matches mobile devices,
Finished with a nice surface that isn't too slippery or fingerprint grabbing.
A nice case!

Cheers,

gav.

I am getting quite worried by the number of features that people seem to want to pile onto this "DAC".

...

I brought forward this idea of a standalone DAC in post 11 as an alternative design as well, kind of following the same line of thinking....

since it is meant to be a portable unit, i think the inclusion of a headphone amp is almost necessary. people don't want to carry around a separate amp for on-the-go. seems like we know what the form factor of the micro will be - it's the same design as the micro series of iFi products, so i doubt that is going to change.

I am in the same camp of thought that the micro iDSD should not be too overly complicated. I have seen the inside of iCAN and I genuinely doubt that you can stuff both an full feature iDSD and an full feature iCAN inside the same shell without making something worst. A good sounding headphone-out (similar to that of iDAC, if not a little better) however is far more achievable.

Since battery and smart devices compatibility are going to be must-have for many, I'll recommend iFi get in touch with Davy Wentzler (@ eXtream Software Development), dev of USB Audio Player PRO as he is the go-to guy when it comes to USB DAC and Android devices. It will be great if there is some optimization to ensure maximum compatibility between micro iDSD (perhaps also nano iDSD) and Android.

See what I mean? That power lead stuck in the side is a look only a mother could love

Fortunately, when I'm done building here, the front panel of the iCAN is the only bit that will be visible to the outside world.

Hi,

The iTube comes with an "L-shaped" adapter add. We only do this quick 'n easy because this uber rig clocks up a fair few air miles!

You get this gist. Send us a pic of your rig when done. There is an iRack thread on head-fi...

those blue cables are cool, lengthwise there just perfect, are they available for sale or did you build them DIY?

by the way looking at this stack, why not sell the micro iDSD in a level II bundle offer with the Mercury USB cable or a level III bundle with the iUSB + Gemini USB Cable (with a nice bundle discount of course

Hi,

1. Those are the iFi "cool blue" copper interconnects. It comes with the premium iRACK. You get 2 x short ICs and 1 x long ICs. We tried some uber expensive silver ICs and these copper versions run them really close, scary close.

2. We leave to iFi retailers to work out bundles. They know what their customers want best. For example, countries with heavy portable use focus on the Mercury (eg Japan) and more desktop (eg Germany) focus more on Gemini/iUSB Power. iFi products are not discounted, but bundling is fair, fine and dandy.

Nothing too technical, and I'm sure some of these have already been suggested, but:

1 - Optional colors to feel more "customizable"
2 - Direct playback via thumb drive or sd card? Too much to ask? Or maybe a model with simple, built-in media storage (8-16 GB) and playback. Which would include ability to be synced with computer as a mass storage device.
3 - Matching remote control for volume control and/or
4 - Docking capability for smart phones with an app. Maybe a hi-res player designed to function with the iDSD Micro. Ability to control phone playback through the app via a remote control. I know that's a big request..
5 - Included coupon for $10 off a 0.5M Mercury cable :)
6 - Bonus Hi-Res song download card

That's all I got

Hi,

1. Looking into it. But Silver is the mainstay.

2. Need a computer source to play the SD card!

3. Portable/desktop. Remote not needed.

4. Back to the iPhone....

5. Different retailers off bundles - based upon local customer demand.

6. Do-able.

Yes!

No big box requests, they just wont happen as they cant fit in the micro chassis (think cigar box).

Plus there is only so much we can squeeze this amount of real estate.

thanks for steering thing and keeping the message clear!

Hi,

If left ON, then the micro iDSD would not be useful in a big system with speakers.

DAP - not gonna happen in the micro iDSD. And it wont make wake you up and make your coffee

That's possibly the most elaborate route from an iphone to earpods ever! Awesome!

While i own 2*gemini, 2*iusb and 1*itube, i'm not familiar with the rest of the gear there. I assume i'm seeing:
Iphone->CCK->Mercury->iusb->ipurifier->idac->itube->ican->earpods did i get this right?

Hi,

1. We demo with Apple Earpods - because it shows people that they arent squeezing anything close out of the Earpods. Dont knock 'em. They are actually very decent.

We also demo with LCD-2s and Fostex TL50RP.

2. You are exactly correct. That is one serious rig. Sat in a comfy leather arm chair, reading a book and listening to tunes, life doesn't get much better.

Hi,

Android is a minefield. Open source = huge variance.

Thanks for the rec. We have taken note. I think our tech people have already been in touch. But will give them a nudge.

DAP - not gonna happen in the micro iDSD. And it wont make wake you up and make your coffee :p

Then a software maybe? Hmm... The ability to switch from 3D headphone mode and 3D speaker mode. Best of both world!

But they keep my asleep! I have sleeping problem! I sleep at 10 and wake up at 6 everyday be it I have school or work or whatsoever -.- been dying for someone who can make me sleep longer T.T
