i'm a bit confused, does this amp give the same output power in single ended as it does in balanced? thinking that the toucan will drive my hd600 pretty well, but it would be for portable use, so the source is unbalanced, so there is no need in running balanced....am i thinking about this correctly, im sure im missing something somewhere :)

i think this is what is confusing me:
Gain: +6dB/ +15dB (Balanced Output)
0dB/ +7.5dB (Single End Output

i have i feeling i have thought myself in a circle :)

No, the SE output can only swing 12.6v and the Balanced output can swing 25.2v.

The gain switches affect both SE and Balanced output.

That said, the SE output should provide a reasonable volume level for your HD600.  You might consider having them reterminated with the Hirose connector, as the performance will surely be improved.  Cost is minimal, and is a very easy DIY project.

Even though your source is unbalanced, the Toucan can still output a balanced signal.

Got it. So, reterminating the hd600 to a hirose plug gives out the 25.5V. Essentially, I would remove the existing plug and solder on the hirose? Simple enough. Ibasso emailed me conflicting info, lost in translation I suppose.

Yes, that is all that is required.  The wiring of the channels have been previously posted, but here is another:
