Gotta say the price tag makes this a consideration, and it looks quite impressive...  Choices...

I haven't seen any official word on whether the DX80 will support TIDAL or other 'streaming' services.

My assumption so far is that it won't, but the faintest hope still lingers.

Any word that you can reveal on this?

Many thanks!

The DX80 does not have wifi. Of course you can use it with a computer or anything that will accept an external dac and use it that way.

With dual micro SD slots you can use whatever size micro SD card you want. At the present time that could be almost 400gb of music, which is quite lot of music.

Until you start to put DSD files on there :)

512GB cards or bust!

Seriously, they cannot get here soon enough.

Agreed. Swapping cards and rescanning is (relatively) simple, but it would be great to minimize that occurrance.

To have the DX80 run for a decent length of time and incorporate all of the features we had to go to a larger battery. With the larger battery the best option available for us was an internal battery. Also there are so many external recharging systems available now that use a battery and are inexpensive many options are available to extend play time.

A coaxial cable will be included for digital output.

We recommend at least 100 hours for burn in on the DX80. What will be optimal is up to everyone's own discretion on what they hear.

Paul, great to hear that iBasso is addressing the short playback time of the DX90, however, the lack of a user replaceable battery and user-centric design of the player is a step backwards. A number of questions:

1) When the battery is approaching EOL, can DX80 owners purchase a replacement battery from the manufacturer / off eBay and with a cellphone DIY toolkit open up and replace the dead battery or are connections sautered?
2) Can owners send their DX80s back to iBasso for a fresh battery replacement or are customers left with a paperweight and forced to purchase next year's model?  If so, please advise on the price of a replacement battery and any other costs so customers can assess the DX80's total cost of ownership.
3) If the battery is a proprietary design, will you ensure the contract with the battery manufacturer is a long-term one i.e., 5-10+ years so that fresh batteries can be continuously produced?

If there's no option to replace the battery by DIYers or iBasso technicians, then it's disappointing to hear that iBasso is following the Apple, Samsung business model of "forced obsolescence" with dying batteries, firmware updates, etc. Most people are tired of disposable electronics and welcome companies that are more conscious of the environment. Thanks

We maintain parts and will continue to for past products. We will have no problem with replacing the battery in the future if it requires replacement. Our repair staff can always do this.

Thanks Paul. Can you address my specific questions regarding DIY battery removal, sautered connections, additional costs of replacement battery, shipping, generic or proprietary battery and duration of supply agreement? Thanks

Are you serious? 5-10 years?  By then the DX 210 will be out.  You are talking about people who buy and sell stuff 3 months later.  You can always buy a DX50 or 90 and replace the battery every 5 years.

I wonder if Tesla gets similar enquiries :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

People calm down. The DX100 has got an internal battery that is easy to replace. iBasso sells it not expensively & dispatches it swiftly. The back of the DX100 unscrews without fuss, and replacing the battery yourself isn't too difficult. Why would the DX80 be more difficult to service?

The battery is not a proprietary design but is a very high quality design. It can be replaced by our distributors or by sending the DX80 back to us. We will keep batteries in stock so that in the future if a battery needs replacement we will have them. For replacement after a warranty period, we always charge a minimal amount. I don't have the cost of the battery right now but we pass on the price of what we pay as a convenience to our customers. The quickest and easiest would be to have the local distributor replace the battery if needed. Soldering is not required.
