Another pairing worth trying... Audeze's LCD-XC (Carbon) and the DX300.. I've found this to be a pretty engaging combination with several genres of music. This pairing got me through a tense work week.

Yeah I reach out to musicteck on a few different daps (Paw6k, n6ii, shanling m8) and they said there was a long waiting list. I owned the Sony wm1z briefly, just with the stock firmware, and I didn’t think it was anything special.

There are a few daps I would like to try before I commit to just one. I would be pairing this with the Sony ier z1r.
I have the Sony NW - WM1A, and I absolutely hated it until it hit about 400 hours and now it is my favorite player. The Sony players are impacted by Burn-in more than most other players. I have 2700 hours on it now. I also own a QP1R and an LPG 2017, and the Sony still gets the lion's Share of time. The headphone you use with the Sony players is really important too, because there are some headphones I hate with the players. I use the Shure SRH1540 headphones out of the balanced port and love them.

Sublime!!!
It can compete only with expensive and well matched separates.
The NOS filter is shockingly lifelike.
Yes, the NOS filter is very different, in a good way.

What volume level do you use? I would guess high gain?

I am listening medium gain 73 - balanced , classical music.
Ok, I just realized I am on medium gain. lol Using the Utopia at 58 with some Greg Brown. Extremely realistic.

This is one of the best matches for the Utopia because of it's flawless - perfect - excellent timbre highs!
