Beta or not, without Ibasso releasing new version, you would have no choice. Why must you look down in your own decision and property?
Ibasso should learn, always charge for upgrades. At least $100-200 more and give Special name.
it is a shame that it has come to this. Things changed because People are unhappy. Trust me, it will only take a few to change the whole picture.
I totally see “Ibasso trying to be good and transparent, and helping people to enjoy music better”. Hell, no one was complaining.....but because “good wills never go unpunished”...
This time I, respectfully, do not agree with you. I don't see them as trying to be transparent at all, and there have been many complaints on this thread alone.
When a company such as iBasso releases a product, said product should be complete and in 100% working order for all the things they advertise, and if it isn't it is up to said company to make it right, not abandon the early version, fix it, and resell it as an upgrade. All the while forgetting about the ones who purchased the earlier version. While I personally love mine, it DOES indeed have issues that make things advertised not work correctly, and many have complained about it on here (I'm sure there are also a lot of people that have said nothing due to its superior sound quality alone, or not actually needing those features). At the very least they should take the time to fix the issues that are not right about it. This is not what iBasso has done with the DX160 at all. Given they are releasing an "updated" version of the exact same DAP, and never having put the DX160 on their website, one could assume that this has been planned. This is a devious tactic at best!
Even if this hasn't been planned, why on earth would they release to public a product that isn't totally complete like a new start-up company might do to get funding to actually make things right after release? This is NOT a start-up company! (IMO) This is iBasso messing up, knowing it, and not wanting to lose any money fixing all the DAPs that are out in the wild. It is like them saying, "time-out, do-over, and to hell with all those that bought the early versions". And, $400 is NOT cheap, to be just throwing the money out there for an upgrade to fix the items that the customer should have had to begin with.
This is not an upgrade, it is an emergency fix to issues that cannot be fixed with FW, being called an upgrade. This typically leaves the owners of the first version out in the cold to ever have any support, or incoming fixes in the future. This, I could be wrong about, and iBasso may step up and do the right... something. I doubt this very much because it is also a typical behavior of Chinese manufacturers to "sell it and forget it" (eg.. Fiio).
And, this (I believe) is what has people up in arms at this point (myself included). It is not because they are putting more power output out of 3.5mm jack, and the new buyers "get this feature why can't I have it, it's unfair"?! It is the slap in the face and the big eff you to people who have already spent the money to buy a product that they are now saying (without saying the actual words) "thank you for beta testing for us, with your own money, but it's now time to move on to the important people".
I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I just think that more and more businesses are not being held accountable for screwing the customer over (whether it be huge, or small). If this happened with a company in the past, there would be a recall and re-issue of product before they would resort to selling an "upgrade" that is just a rehash of the same product that has been fixed to the standard that the earlier version was SUPPOSED to be in the first place.
All of this is just my (honest, and angry) opinion, so take it all with a grain of salt, and I could be totally wrong about all of it.
